WAAPA AUDITIONS!!
Fri, 7 Oct 2005, 11:49 pmUm hi guys! wow what an amazing forum! I am, like so amazed how much you guys all know about like, acting and stuff! I heard off my friend dulcie at the clinic that waapa was doing auditions for people soon.... my mum has always said i'm such a character, and I was thinking, i reckon i could be a performer in a big hollywood musical! i cant really sing that good - only in the shower using my shampoo as the microphone!! haha I heard they teach you singing and stuff at the academy, so yeh. I reckon it wud be wicked to be in a place where everyone is so talented and amazing singers. I wanted to get advice on my audition.... I started writing my audition monologue and me and my friend sharon, who did ballet until she was, like, 14, is helping mewith a creative dance...how long should it be? and is it cool if i wear my leotard? what do you people reckon?>
thanks so much guys!

I dont do musical theatre, Im a musician at WAAPA in my third year, but I do know that you cant just write your own monologue. If you go to the acutal waapa website there are a list of female and male monologues. You have to select from there, the only thing I dont know of is how many you pick, Im sure it would say, I havent looked. Also I know you have to pick one up-beat song and one ballad. Dont pick anything that you think everyone else will be doing (eg DONT do anything from Chicago). They get about 3000 applicants and only take 9 girls and 9 boys, so you imagine how annoyed the panel get after hearing 'Roxy' ect for the 1000th time. I'm pretty sure if you get a call back, then they ask for the dance, but I think that the first audition is based on singing and the monos and its taken pretty seriously, so you have to impress them with your voice....
Hope thats some help. Its probably best if you talk to and actual MT though. Or call WAAPA urself.
Oh and leotard..... *vomits* I wouldnt lol
