Hey Peeps,

My name is Rose and i would like to post one thing and one thing only,we have to be the only industry i know that gets paid great amounts to do what we love to do and we do it with passion and energy everyday,we also get paid to pass on our OWN knowledge and experience to our peers that know only what we tell to them so how about we let go of all the bagging and concentrate on working together to create a wholesome, full and vibing community rather than creating tension for all those that need to work together and lets work in harmony, for we are only gypsies!
Love Light and Happiness

>>why would you do amateur theatre as a professional when you could be being paid?

Because if it were that easy, no professional actor would ever be out of work... I think it's a great opportunity to keep your skills up and at least enjoy some extra stage experience... It's an unfortunately fact that people associate "money" with being professional...

>>I am not being a snob, but what's the point? One is a hobby group, the other is professional entertainment.

I would never work with, nor have I encountered a theatre group that uses the excuse "we're amateur" to pull off second rate entertainment... They work just as hard, if not harder, to put on the best performances they can... As far as "professional entertainment" goes, Ive seen a lot of "hobby groups" that do a better job than some of those actually working in the industry...

If it's a question of talent, and "hobby groups" just being a bit of fun, I know die-hard fans that support these groups hook, nail and tooth, and would sooner attend the opening night of one of the amateur shows than a pro one... Amateur groups give any performer (professional or non-professional) the opportunity to work on stage in an environment that is (hopefully) nurturing and supportive...

Sure, some see it as "a bit of fun on the side", and some see it as "the experience of a life-time" - But I think it's unfair to draw a line between these two worlds (pro vs amateur) and say that money is a defining factor... Because real talent, and the "passion in our industry", doesn't depend on it...
