Thanks, Cracker, for at least providing an intelligent response. No one is saying you guys should not be posting here, in fact you SHOULD be. Neither should you feel the need to be conservative or restrict those crazy ideas.
But I also feel sympathy for Showzfan's point of view...there has been a lot of juvenile dribble bantered back and forth recently from a handful identifying themselves as WAAPA students, and to anyone outside your private loop it appears tedious, unfunny, and 'wanky'.
As your training progresses, you might feel more inclined to try and counteract this negative, cliched view of WAAPA students and instead provide more creative entertainment. You're now jointly responsible for the public face of the institution you attend. Feel proud about that, and make the general public feel pride for you, not scorn.
If this really IS your calling, you're just going to have to become aware that anything you do from now on is likely to be scrutinised under the public eye. Rightly or wrongly, you're going to receive public criticism, and a large part of your reputation will emerge from how you choose to publicly respond to such criticism.
I'm not pretending that I haven't also written some crap here at times. Some of what I write here has been purely to get a rise; to be controversial, non-conformist, & non-conservative. A lot of it is just to get a laugh. And a lot of it is ego-driven. Occasionally I might actually be sharing useful wisdom or information...usually I'm just being smart-arsed and opinionated.
But at all times I am certainly aware of my audience.
I think this was probably the underpinning argument behind Showzfan's complaint. You guys were missing a terrific opportunity to be amusing and to be entertaining others. If you're only here for your own amusement it just comes across as wank.
You can get away with writing just about anything here so long as you are mindful and respectful of your audience.
I'd say that'd be a good skill to practise, sometime before you guys graduate, eh?
All the best in the coming semesters. I'll quite possibly work with many of you when you emerge on the other side.
Cheers,
Craig
