Advice please
Mon, 16 Apr 2012, 03:03 pmI have written a musical comedy and I am seeking advise on how to go about getting the play staged. I have no practical experience in theater, and lack the confidence to act, but enjoy the creativity that amateur dramatics allows. I have received positive reactions from my friends with regard to the play, but I am hoping to interest someone with theatrical experience to give an opinion, and advise on whether or not the play might be suitable to be performed, and if so, how to go about it. Are there any companies that might help in this area?
Please contact me denyslunn@hotmail.com if you would like a copy of the script (via email). Your opinion and advice will be much appreciated.
constructive criticism
Wed, 9 May 2012, 11:01 amThe reason for writing this post was to receive advice and opinion, and I appreciate you taking the time to express yours. It is a valid opinion, but the person who suggested the play be extended also suggested where and how. She encouraged me to think about a sub plot and even changing its period to the 60's, and, being a comedy the more one liners the better.
At 70 / 75 minutes it is perhaps a little short, and I believe she is right that the play would benefit from some of the above, and be of a more appropriate length.
As well as writing this play, I enjoy composing music and painting and I actively seek constructive criticism from others (especially, but not exclusively knowledgeable people) and assess it. In this case I agree with her.
