Can someone help me? I've been told that if I succesfully audition for a part in an amateur production that I will have to pay $200 bond. Is this normal or should I be suspicious?

Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. Next, ask them how much they are planning on spending, and how much they're charging for tickets. Besides, if the deal is to encourage people not dropping out, they can still show up to performances and not hand back the script - and still be out $200. I'd say avoid the role. There's plenty of other amateur groups out there to be a part of.
