Is it normal to be charged a bond in amateur musicals?

Can someone help me? I've been told that if I succesfully audition for a part in an amateur production that I will have to pay $200 bond. Is this normal or should I be suspicious?

Hi Weal, Two things. 1 Charging people a huge fee will not guarantee their loyalty to any show if there are not other damned good reasons for them to remain with the production. 2 Pro/Am. If you are proposing to pay SOME cast members (pro's) but make others pay $200 to be involved as amateurs just for the experience, then I am not surprised that you have issues with people deserting the production mid way through rehearsals. I would advise people to be careful about joining this company on the basis of how you administer your finances. Tulipa.
