Is it normal to be charged a bond in amateur musicals?

Can someone help me? I've been told that if I succesfully audition for a part in an amateur production that I will have to pay $200 bond. Is this normal or should I be suspicious?

if you know its going to be put on at the Theatre Royal, Sydney, tickets can be bought via ticketek, plus its a pro-am production, (so pros who are accepted for a role are paid), and you can join the chorus as an amatuer, would you think its still worth it?
