Is it normal to be charged a bond in amateur musicals?

Can someone help me? I've been told that if I succesfully audition for a part in an amateur production that I will have to pay $200 bond. Is this normal or should I be suspicious?

Maybe this is an east coast thing. here in the west, I've never been asked for a bond. Most companies insist that you become a member to perform in their productions - fair enough - its usually only about $20. If there is a t-shirt on offer, you buy it if you want to - another $20. No offence intended Weal, you seemed to know all about it, that's all.
