If you're going to take
Sat, 8 Jan 2011, 04:29 amIf you're going to take submissions of prompt copys for SM adjudication than lighting and sound could also submit design plans, cue synopsis etc to be judged on. I'm curious about needing to distinguish between designer and operator since a board operator should be following the instructions of the designer.
That said, I read a review once that praised my operator's fades between scenes - they were simply hitting a GO button while I had programmed the cue. Nevermind.
Alternatively, backstage jobs can become a kind of "People's Choice" award, where directors and actors can nominate backstage people for awards using a kind of written testimonial or peer review. Difficult to judge still but at least ajudicators would be getting an idea of what the cast thought of their efforts.
Finally, a technical judge might also be benificial. If they were allowed to tour backstage post-show with, say, the director and potentially meeting heads of departments. It takes away the anonymity of being judged but may also benefit judging of set and costume since the adjudicator gets to see another side of the production process.
Anyway, congrats to those nominated, it looks to be a great night at the Finleys.
