One for the ITA to answer?
Thu, 6 Jan 2011, 08:17 amThe quick answer is that sound and lighting design are usually covered in adjudicators certificates. Why they don't have a major award I'm not sure on Disgruntled. I think it may have something to do with the number of awards already in place but even typing that I realise that's not a great or satisfactory answer. Over to Kim and the committee for an answer.
As for stage managers, the key problem I see with that is that the adjudicators can only judge what they can see onstage and a lot of stage manager work is done backstage, in rehearsal, etc and without being backstage to observe, it's problematic to adjudicate. You could argue that one way of assessing this would be the efficiency of scene changes but thats only part of the job. In summary, how do you adjudicate a good stage manager? That's my thinking and I believe that's why there is no award. I agree with you though - a good stage manager is worth their weight in gold. In lieu of awards I find they survive very well on hugs.
