chasers war on everything
Tue, 11 Sept 2007, 06:08 pmHi every one just want to know what every one thinks about the chasers war on everything
I disagree
Fri, 14 Sept 2007, 03:06 pmI actually enjoy the Chasers.
Whilst a lot is not 'highbrow' nor particularly edgy, the stuff that is a little more in the face is worth it.
I also think that as far as honest commentary in Australian politics goes, these guys have been doing it better than most, and for quite a long time now.
The APEC 'stunt' was a glaring example of the garbage we are expected to swallow being brought out into the spotlight.
$300+ million, shut down a city, and a couple of guys with stunt passes and a couple of black cars were able to drive all the way in.
In fact, if you watched the show on Wednesday (as I did) you would see that not only did they penetrate the deepest security level (red zone)-
a) they honestly did not think they would get anywhere near that far...
b) the only reason they didn't continue was because they themselves stopped, tried to turn around, and a guy dressed as Osama Bin Laden got out of the car. This was the FIRST point that any one of the dozens of police in the area paid any attention.
As the exec producer said- thank god we weren't Al Qaeda.
I think sure, a lot of their stuff is very undergrad humour (I like undergrad humour!), but to blanket the important satirical stuff they do actually do is in my opinion as irresponsible as the very same people who phone the morning talkback and say "jail the lot of them- gays, aboriginals, lefty protesters etc."
I agree the more distressing point is that as far as Australia goes, this is about as close to satire and truly independent commentary as we are seeing these days...
Did anyone notice the section where they asked for the Chinese embassy to pay in advance for the bullet that was going to be used for an assassination attempt on the Chinese premier? Does anyone not agree that this was an interesting and impactful way of attacking the issue that China murders more of its own citizens than every other nation on earth combined (and bill the family of the executed for the bullet used)
This, in my opinion, is the ballsiest stuff out there. Like their methods or not.

It's the simple things stupid...
