SERENITY ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS

Is calling auditions for this years intake. Please send your contact details together with your headshot and $100 audition fee to:

37 Sixth Ave Shaylands 6050

You will be informed by phone if you are eligible to audition on the 30th of Jan. If asked to audition please prepare:

Males - ONE of the following vastly contrasting songs:
"She Cries", "High flying adored", "Where is the life", "On the street were you live"

Females - ONE of the following... " All that jazz” or "Part of your world"
.....ThatÂ’s right, from the little mermaid....

Serenity Academy of Performing Arts or (SAPA) is a new up and coming drama school, likely to rival WAAPA. Based in Perth it has some of the greatest tutors who have not yet reached the industry:

The one known as "Princess" will teach elocution and exotic dance. Mark – AKA Shat - will teach various forms of effort management (with occasional help from his friend Shalis from Arts Management). Larry will teach the fine art of never coming home and also Irish dancing and Jack will be teaching his students how to say "Ugh!" dramatically and also how and when to be as hideous as you possibly can. For Jacks classes students are asked to please bring a goon bag and some spring roll from Kunt's Kitchen. Other guest directors and teachers will include: Shatie Shallison, Kathleane Sigory, Excuse My Mathers, Dizzy "trash bag" Stiles, Massive Mac, Angry Anderson and who ever Mark – AKA Shat - happens to be sleeping with at the time.

Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career,
Regards and best of luck,
SERENITY

Hey Cracker

You guys only seem to have found this website over the past few months...give it another six months and you'll start to realise that there is no limit of gullible hopefuls out there who would not have read between the lines (or much further than your first few sentences), nor understood any of the humour in your first post.
This is partly why I've been hammering on about understanding the audience you're writing for here; and that 'in' jokes sometimes backfire because there is bound to be someone who'll take it literally.

I didn't understand the 'Serenity' reference, but I got the context of the rest of your post and found it all generally amusing. But I don't think it's too far-fetched a scenario that someone who doesn't realise that 'Shaylands' isn't a suburb may well have written to you for more information, even sending money. (In fact they were probably from Nebraska and were sending you 100 US dollars....should've posted a real address, hey?). We've had huge problems in the past with young teenage hopefuls (desperate to believe what they want to believe, rather than any obvious evidence) answering ads in posts that were 3 or 4 years out of date; answering ads for local actors when they live in a different country; responding to posts that specifically ask for actors about twenty years older than they are; and responding to posts that are specifically telling them not to respond...yet they still do. They inevitably respond to a single post midway through a thread, that they might have found through a Google search, and neglect to even open the previous posts which would have given them all the info they needed. You may think you made it clear enough in the second half of your post that it was all a giant piss-take; but some readers would not have bothered reading past 'If asked to audition please prepare:"....Yes, I know it sounds incredible but it happens!
And unfortunately, because there are SO MANY gullibles out there, there are just as many shonky operators seeking to take advantage of young hopefuls. Some of these guys are harmless enough, but some are outright scary, and some of their posts are not dissimilar to the one you posted in jest as a parody. Young kids have been known to give out personal details, photos, phone numbers...I don't know of any who've actually sent money but it's not a big leap to imagine it happens. And many 13-14 year olds (the age bracket that seems to answer these ads the most) don't have a clear concept of what $100 is worth, or that it's not appropriate to pay for an audition.

fele, count your blessings that you've got a brain, but you can't always assume that others do.

You said, 'Yes I can understand that if you haven't heard of Serenity then you may be suckered into sending money to this place."
Well, until you just explained it, I can guarantee that most readers here hadn't heard of it; it was too much of an 'in' joke. So you can understand why I think you're probably right...someone gullible WILL have been prepared to send money.
And saying, 'But anyone wanting $100 audition fee especially in Perth"...that reads as if you think that if it WASN'T in Perth it might be okay? Whereas we both know what you meant was - paying for auditions is not on, full stop.

Please don't think I'm having a go at you WAAPA students over these recent posts...I point all this out because I'm as incredulous as you are that anyone might have taken you seriously. But I know it happens - because I've been there/done that...stuff I thought was a clever joke has backfired when someone gullible's taken me WAY too literally.
I'm discussing your posts here because there's a chance they MIGHT read this, understand more, and see the joke of it all, or at least be wary in the future. But probably not.

But it does support what I said recently....if you're going to post here please think about who's likely to be reading your banter; and understand that if you're going to be obscure, you're likely to confuse people in ways you didn't anticipate.

Cheers,
Craig
