RENT at rockdale or penrith?
Sun, 25 Sept 2005, 02:30 pmHey
I saw the Rockdale RENT yesterday and it was awesome! It really was a lot of fun and most of the cast were very strong vocally.
I was wondering if anyone has seen the Penrith performance. Is it worth seeing? As good as Rockdale?
Thanks!

Hi all
A question.
I am currently directing RENT in Campbelltown and I got the chance to see Rockdale's production of RENT. (Congrats to the cast, great show)
One thing I did notice: the direction and choreography of Rockdale's show was nearly an exact replica of the professional production of RENT (both the American and Australian production)
Down to Mimi's Out Tonight pole sliding to Maureen's "Over The Moon" (tied to the hood of a yellow rental truck etc etc...) as I was watching the performance, I suddenly realised that I knew all the staging and the choreography for the whole show, with maybe two or three slight changes (By the way, the woman who played Maureen was fantastic and Blanket Woman, you rocked the performance with Seasons Of Love, Mark - you were awesome as well)
So, my question: as an audience member, do you like to see an amateur or pro amateur company staging a musical as the professional would, basically resulting in gaining the chance to see what the professional version would look like for a lesser cost and some great talent in the amateur theatre circuit...
or -
do you like to see new ideas being fleshed out on the stage such as Penrith's version of I'll Cover You and the ghost of Angel for something new and a different translation or interpretation of the text.
This is simply a question, there is nothing else in it. I have my own ideas for my production of the show which I'm going ahead with so it doesnt matter in that respect.
And I'm not just talking about RENT, but any show.
Thoughts, feelings, sensations??
Cheers
Jonathon
