LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is a classic story of Faustian magnitude where mild-mannered Seymour discovers an exotic little plant with a strange and unusual appetite. The plant is growing remarkably fast and so is SeymourÂ’s love for his co-worker at the flower shop, Audrey. But she has a boyfriendÂ… and the plant has a bloodthirsty secret that threatens the entire planet.

yellow glass theatre inc (LAST DAYS OF WEIMAR, ANTHEMS FOR DOOMED YOUTH) brings together some of PerthÂ’s best musical theatre performers and musicians in this fully staged production with a difference.

Dear Sue,

I find it hard to believe that you can publically denounce Little Shop of Horrors having actually not seen it yourself.

For your information, tickets were priced at $29.50 (full), $23.50 (concession) and $19 (groups). A simple visit to the BOCS website, the yellow glass website or the advertisment placed on this website would have clarified your queries.

For your future reference:

www.theatre.asn.au

This is what most companies are charging now for thier productions, and usually for a pile of rubbish.
Also, the general cost of staging a decent production has risen dramatically over the last few years. It's just way of life... things get more expensive (eg. peterol @ $1.20/litre... what the!?!). I can personally guarantee that you will no longer get tickets at $10 for a quality production you will want to write home about. I think everyone has to accept this fact and continue to support one another by going to see each others shows. Also, increased ticket prices usually indicate that the producers have invested a reasonable amount of money into the production, which is a clear indication that they believe in their product. At best, all they want to do is make back their monies spent. A bonus if there is cash in surplus at the end.

When you are as popular as yellow glass theatre, selling tickets yourself can become a huge task requiring alot of time and effort that should be directed toward the production itself. The enlistment of a proffessional ticketing agency, such as BOCS, allows for this. Although it does attract a small fee to promoter (and sometimes the consumer), it is a small price to pay for a well managed, stress free ticketing system, and in reality, this fee has to be absorbed somewhere.

As for the relation between being 'amateur' and advertising on this website, maybe you should put this to the WA Opera or the PIAF committee. They advertise on here regularly, among others, and are far from amateur. This website is for all in the arts, free to advertise auditions, shows and basically whatever they want. It is simply a free, effective marketing tool for those who don't have enourmous advertising budgets.

Which brings me to my next point. Massive budgets, government funded or otherwise, is the only thing that differentiates yellow glass theatre inc. from any other professional company in this country. They are still young and are currently producing the best, most innovative productions Perth has to offer. Many local theatre companies that have been around for decades are still struggling to produce the quality that yellow glass have skillful mastered in such a short time. Perhaps you should actually come along to one of thier shows and see for yourself.

The Sunroom Theatre may not be the most state-of-the-art venue, but it is a space that is availible, not too far out of the CBD. When you do decide to go to the theatre Sue, are you honestly paying for venue aestheics? Yes, plush velvet drappery with new facilities are nice, but rare. I understand that a few of Perth's popular theatre venues are currently undergoing renovation, which will be nice for all of us, but it has resluted in a lack of venue options. The Sunroom is not on a massive budget and is also doing what it can to support theatre in Perth as best it can during this time.

The patrons of Little Shop paid for an amazingly talented cast, a flawless five piece live band and a expertly directed interpretation of this cult classic. The venue is irrelevant. Let's not forget that the general public is occasionally treated with truly awful productions coming out of the best, most expensive, venues.

I know for a fact that Little Shop of Horrors had a hugely successful run, with endless support and possitive feedback. Gloriously impressed patrons who verbalised their praise to yellow glass include Jill Perryman, Ron Banks, John-Michael Swinbank, Rachael Brayshaw and John Flood from the ABC network... to name just a few. I also know of several audience members returning several times to witness the glory that was this production. Continual praise and support from the media and the top of Perth's arts 'hierarchy' would indicate that these boys are onto something genius.

Come along and see thier production of the West Australian Premiere of RENT, by Jonathan Larson in December. Unless of course you won't bother and will insist on making public comment on what you claim to be "on the grapevine".

Grant.

P.S. If you are "such a great fan" of Simon, why on gods earth would you post any message that may be detirmental to the success of his company? Majority of the people on this earth think the world of Chris and Simon, myself included, and want for them to succeed in every way possible.

P.P.S. For those that want to get in early, I have heard that tickets for RENT will be available for purchase from Friday 12th August through BOCS Ticketing on 9484 1133 or www.bocsticketing.com.au
