They seem to have much more flexible rules in this regard ( for amatuer shows I mean) than professional ones. My experience may not be the norm. but here are just four examples of concurrent (or almost) amatuer seasons.

Rockingham and Mandurah staged about five years ago the same pantomime at the same time. (Half an hour travel time between theatres.)

When I directed Calamity Jane at Pinjarra in November 2002 the Roleystone Theatre had also applied to do it at the same time. The rep from the licensing place asked me if I though ticket sales would be impacted upon for either production, and I said I felt not - as the theatres were a good hours drive apart. So they let us both go ahead.

And yet a few years prior to that I was unable to do "Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in Pinjarra WA because there was a professional touring company doing it and from memory it wasn't even in Australia at the time but in one of our neighbouring Asian countries. (Personally I didn't think that our ticket sales in Pinjarra would have made much difference to their show - but that seems to be how it works!)

And yet when I finally got the rights to do it a couple of years later there was another amatuer production of it staged in Perth just a few weeks prior to ours.

Going back a good twenty five years when I was performing in Camelot at Roleystone - Pinjarra were staging it at the same time.

Phew! That was all a bit long winded, but I occasionally read these things and never before have I made a post. (Tonight I've made two! A record indded!) It was nice to actually something contribute to a discussion for once! It'll probably be another six months now before I look at these again!
