I'll chip in (I'm sorry, I know I talk too much). I think what anyone would look for acting wise is definitely demonstrate that you can create a story, a context - and demonstrate this from the beginning. Do it in your song, not just your monologue readings, because as a music theatre student, you'll be expected to marry songs and acting together. So demonstrate that you can create a character, a scenario, a backstory to your songs (and then your monologue). Remember, there's no wrong answers, be imaginative, take journeys mentally and try to envisage what an interesting set of events might be that would lead your character to this particular song or monologue.
