Moderating Posts Down
Wed, 10 Sept 2008, 04:17 pmOkay, I'm a little confused - someone (or several someones) appears to moderating posts down at an alarming rate. I writing of course inr egards to the All Shook Up threads in the reviews forum. It seems now that posts are being moderated down even if they say nice things about the show... Are some people having a moderation war or something?
I can't agree with this kind of blatant and unwarranted censorship! If a post is racist, uses abusive language or any of those things that would warrant moderation I completely understand, but the moderation that is going on is nothing short of juvenile. I'm not sure whether Logos is right in regards to shows that have large numbers of young people involved being a breeding ground for this sort of behaviour, but I think he could make a strong case.
At this stage, I think that everyone needs to have their moderation rights revoked! I for one would be happy to give up the privelage of moderation if it means that this silly consorship will stop. Just because you don't agree with the content of a post does not give you the right to make it disappear. At least, that's what I think. I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this - please, let's start one of the good old fashioned discussions about this - if it turns out I'm in the minority, I'll shut up - I promise!

Moderating in company comments
Thu, 11 Sept 2008, 02:43 pmAhh. Yes, I did understand that. I only questioned it because it seemed a bit odd that someone who wasn't an Admin would be moderating comments that weren't actually in a forum discussion...
But, hey. Web forums are usually full of oddballs... There will always be people who get a sick kick out of getting other people down on the internet, and it usually has some relation to ego issues...
At the end of the day, who people are on the internet is usually the total opposite of who they are in the real world, and many people exploit this fact. Those who choose to exert as much "cyber authority" as they can are usually the ones who have little authority in the real world. Online power trips may boost the ego, but they definitely do not boost the online popularity. Hence, remaining anonymous.
I don't think it matters how many changes are made to the forum "rules" and "permissions". The only way to stop attention seekers ruining your day is to stop giving them the attention.
Daniel Kershaw proved that it's extremely hard to totally give up on a forum you have strong ties to (and it would have been a shame for one of the "good ones" on this forum to no longer contribute), but it's a lot easier to just stick to the topics at hand without whingeing about the annoying moderations and anonymous posts.
