I think the idea of having a Con in most australian cities is that they're all meant to provide good music training.
If you're just starting out and looking for basic music training and a solid music degree then I don't think the conservatoriums vary that much. Generally by starting with something like a BPA or BMus you get a good grounding from which you can study and specialise post grad with something like the Sydney Con's Opera Course or at Australian Opera Studio.
