Vale: Fred Ebb 1932-2004
Mon, 13 Sept 2004, 09:49 amIt was with some sadness that I found out this morning about the passing of Fred Ebb from a Heart Attack at the age of 72.
Ebb was the lyricist half of the great team Kander & Ebb, responsible for some of the most popular musicals of the last forty years.
His Broadway credits include:
Cabaret
Chicago
The Act
Woman of the Year
The Rink
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Steel Pier
Apparently his two most recent works: "Over and Over" and "The Visit" have been seen in the US but not yet on Broadway, and he was in the process of completing a new work, ironically titled "Curtains"
In his career he won four Tony Awards (from twelve nominations) and Four Emmys.
On a personal note:
My favourite Ebb musical would still have to be Cabaret, but my favourite Ebb song would have to be the Cell Block Tango from Chicago
