Jesus me beads, you lot. The kid asks for help and you reply with a self-rightous tirade about the form of his letter!
Jade, stay at school because unfortunately they are right - you do need to polish up a few things. How can you understand the subtleties of a writer's lines if you don't understand the finer mechanics of writing.
Then, join an amateur company - a good one; you won't learn much working with hopeless directors in low-standard productions. The best place to learn acting is on stage doing it (with a good director); the second best place is in the auditorium watching. You must make theatre-going a regular event because only that way will you learn about various styles (you don't play Tennessee Williams with the same style as you play Oscar Wilde!). Even watching a bad production can be beneficial if you ask yourself questions like "Why am I bored?" "Why are people leaving?" "That line was quite witty; why didn't it get a laugh?"
Don't just go to the rehearsals to which you are called, go to all the rehearsals and listen to the discussion. If your school doesn't offer drama as a course, see about changing schools.
If your parents go to see you in productions, hopefully your talent will be obvious to them and, along with good reviews, you may have less trouble in persuading them to let you go to WAAPA or NIDA (in that order).
Finally, read! Everything you can get your hands on. Acting is bringing life experience to bear on a character. The only life experience you have at the moment is of a 14 year-old Sydney school boy and not many of the great playwrights have written roles that require that. By reading, you can learn a lot about other cultures, other customs, other countries, other occupations - in short, other lives.
