Does anyone need an accompanist? I have just moved into the Sydney area and I'm available for accompaniment, musical direction, vocal coaching, cabaret work etc. HELP! I really need some work. Does anyone have any ideas as I'm lost! I have heaps of experience in music theatre and related genres. Recent shows I've conducted include La Cage aux Folles, Annie, Chicago, A Christmas Carol and Calamity Jane. I would love to hear from you if you have any ideas! I can make my CV and references available.

Hi Ben,

I'm not sure if you want to accompany as a 2nd job or as a main source of income - but if you are doing it as a hobby, there are plenty of non-professional societies around who are always looking for accompanists and musical directors. Payment is reasonable if you are doing it as a hobby - generally you can get $30 - $35 per 3 hour rehearsal.

There is a yahoo group called "Sydney Pit Musos" http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SydneyPitMusos/

This is a list of musicians who do the rounds of the amateur societies as well as some professional musos. It might be useful to introduce yourself to the list - there are often requests for rehearsal pianists posted, as well as musical direction jobs.

I understand Canterbury Theatre Guild is currently looking for a rehearsal pianist for their upcoming production of "Chess" - email me (howie@ihug.com.au) if you want contact details.
