Accompanist available - ideas?
Fri, 26 Mar 2004, 05:12 pmDoes anyone need an accompanist? I have just moved into the Sydney area and I'm available for accompaniment, musical direction, vocal coaching, cabaret work etc. HELP! I really need some work. Does anyone have any ideas as I'm lost! I have heaps of experience in music theatre and related genres. Recent shows I've conducted include La Cage aux Folles, Annie, Chicago, A Christmas Carol and Calamity Jane. I would love to hear from you if you have any ideas! I can make my CV and references available.

Re: Accompanist available - ideas?
Hi Ben,
I'm not sure if you want to accompany as a 2nd job or as a main source of income - but if you are doing it as a hobby, there are plenty of non-professional societies around who are always looking for accompanists and musical directors. Payment is reasonable if you are doing it as a hobby - generally you can get $30 - $35 per 3 hour rehearsal.
There is a yahoo group called "Sydney Pit Musos" http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SydneyPitMusos/
This is a list of musicians who do the rounds of the amateur societies as well as some professional musos. It might be useful to introduce yourself to the list - there are often requests for rehearsal pianists posted, as well as musical direction jobs.
I understand Canterbury Theatre Guild is currently looking for a rehearsal pianist for their upcoming production of "Chess" - email me (howie@ihug.com.au) if you want contact details.

Re: Accompanist available - ideas?
HELP!!!
I just saw your email and I hope you get this before tomorrow as you sound like just what I'm looking for.
I am currently musical directing 'Footloose' with Regals Musical Society which opens in two weeks. We are having a rehearsal tomorrow from 12 - 4pm at Rockdale town hall and our normal rehearsal pianist is unavailable. Can you help me out..we can pay you $80 for the day.
The address is:
Rockdale Town Hall
Cnr of the Princes Hwy and Bryant street Rockdale
It has a train station very close by..
Please get back to me by calling
0419-411-125
OR
9525-7130
I am quite desperate as you can imagine with tomorrow being tomorrow and me being rehearsal pianist-less at this stage.
Thanks for your time,
You could also let me know if we could use you for future shows too. We could put you on our list.

Re: Accompanist available - ideas?
Hi Julie,
I am so sorry, I have only just found this. It's funny though because I'm working as Assistant MD for Footloose for the Hornsby Musical Society production. I apologise for not having found this message sooner. If ever you need someone again, please feel free to call me on 0409 231 535. I hope your production ended up going really well. Some of the cast members from our production saw your show and loved it so much!
Anyway, feel free to contact me at any time on the above number or by emailing me direct, benvt@tasmail.com.
Cheers, Ben
