Apparently Roleystone’s production of “The Fantasticks” opens tomorrow…

Does anyone out there know anything about this production?
Or for that matter does anyone know anything about the show itself?

It has been billed as the “World’s Longest Running Musical”.
I always though that title went to “Chorus Line”, but hey, what do I know, ACL closed quite a few years ago, something could have overtaken it…

I have seen the video of “Fantasticks” and didn’t like it, although all the reviews of it I read said that it was a very disappointing version of a great musical.
(Would this make it like “Camelot”? Great show, shame about the film…)

Has “Fantasticks” been done in Perth before? Recently I mean.

IÂ’ll most probably go see the show anyway, it certainly not one of these shows that gets dragged out every couple of months, but IÂ’d like to go in there with a little bit of advance warning as to what to expectÂ…

Sorry, Amanda - but I must interject.

The Fantasticks ran non-stop from 1960 to 2002 Off Broadway. I think it was simply a mix-up in terms - plenty of people use 'Broadway' when they mean 'New York in General'. It most certainly did not shut in 1983 and the one that closed this year in the original Sullivan Street theatre was the same one. As you say - 'I know, cause I was there!' - I saw it twice in two days in 2000 and loved every minute. Not sure where your closing info came from - other than various threats to close, mostly to re-arouse interest in it, it ran non-stop for 42 years, for 17, 162 performances.

Oh, and don't see the film. Don't be fooled by Joel Gray (or that guy from New Kids on the Block). Buy the CD of the original cast, and be transported.
