Fantasticks
Tue, 6 Aug 2002, 11:55 amApparently Roleystone’s production of “The Fantasticks” opens tomorrow…
Does anyone out there know anything about this production?
Or for that matter does anyone know anything about the show itself?
It has been billed as the “World’s Longest Running Musical”.
I always though that title went to “Chorus Line”, but hey, what do I know, ACL closed quite a few years ago, something could have overtaken it…
I have seen the video of “Fantasticks” and didn’t like it, although all the reviews of it I read said that it was a very disappointing version of a great musical.
(Would this make it like “Camelot”? Great show, shame about the film…)
Has “Fantasticks” been done in Perth before? Recently I mean.
IÂ’ll most probably go see the show anyway, it certainly not one of these shows that gets dragged out every couple of months, but IÂ’d like to go in there with a little bit of advance warning as to what to expectÂ…

Re: Fantasticks....also
Tue, 6 Aug 2002, 05:39 pmFantasticks was the longest running OFF-Broadway musical - it finished in the US in 1983 (I know, coz I was there). I think, however, it does hold the record as the world's longest running musical, on or off Broadway, West-End, anywhere. The Fantasticks that closed this year was a revival production that only opened a couple of years ago (if that - possibly less than a year) - it may even have been on Broadway for the first time in the musical's history.
Cats is (was) the longest running Broadway musical, the title it took from A Chorus Line, hence your mix up, Gloria.
Songs you may recognise are 'Try To Remember' which was covered by a few 60s singers and, if you're a show-tune buff, 'Much More', a soprano audition standard.
