AUDITIONS!!!!!

For amateur stuff, especially musicals, you're limited really. There's Camberwell Theatre Co., who generally do plays. There's... hmm, I've forgotten their name but they're in Camberwell... (I'm sure I'll get into trouble for posting that, but my experience is just that) If you want to get more experience outside of school, why not audition for a fringe show? At 17, you'll be performing with a lot of similarly aged people, and there's heaps around to get involved in. Additionally, you can always just avoid joining a group, and create your own.
