Hi everyone.. I'm an American who just finished doing a masters in Acting Musical Theatre at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. I've been working and teaching here in London now. I'm interested in taking the research I was doing in my masters and taking it further into a PhD. Part of what I need in a program is a performing arts academy that has both a music and theatre department, since my research is about that crossover. And of course, I'd love a good advisor. One of the schools that seems to fit a lot of what I'm looking for is WAAPA. And I have to admit, the idea of living is sunny Perth for a while is really appealing :) I was curious of what people thought of postgrad work at WAAPA or what people might know about it. I've had a professional career both as a performer and a teacher, and I'm looking to have a career teaching at the university level while performing. Any input would be great. thanks! Jen

I'm currently an undergrad

I'm currently an undergrad there, but I think WAAPA offers a range of post-grad options. a friend of mine is currently doing a masters in voice for the actor, and she gets to sit in on our classes occasionally to observe teaching methods etc. there is a lovely lady there in charge of the research side of things, Dr Maggi Phillips. if you go to the website you'll be able to get her contact details. there is both an acting and music theatre course there (both 3 years undergrad) and lots of music courses (jazz and classical etc). And although WAAPA is a crazy little world all to itself, the fact that you're familiar with Central should prepare you for it. Most of the undergrad students are from outside Perth so you won't be alone. hope this helps.
