Volunteer Book Narrators Sought: Kooyong (Melbourne) Victoria only. Vision Australia is seeking volunteers to narrate a range of books for its library titles. This is an ideal opportunity for all aspiring and professional actors to further develop their performance skills and expand their CV. We are interested in hearing from all ages (over 18) but we have a particular requirement for the 25 to 55 year age bracket. Our national library - a free library service for people with a print disability - produces audio books for clients in a wide variety of genres, including novels, biographies and histories. For further information or to forward your acting/theatre CV contact Stella Glorie: stella.glorie@visionaustralia.org Please note: Melbourne only.

Paul, I agree. Donating time and skills to a worthy charity certainly does top up the karma tin and make you a better human being. It's just unfortunate that, until a year ago, Vision Australia used to pay a modest sum to all of the people who narrated printed texts for the blind. Many smaller time, out of work, older or struggling actors used to make a few dollars each week whilst keeping their skills up, being active and contributing to a worth cause. I know a few of the folk who used to get a gig there. The above call for talent from VA, unfortunately, confirms my suspicions that these experienced readers have had to move on and seek their daily bread elsewhere and that volunteer readers seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment.
