Hi, I am new to all of this and currently looking for some work as an extra or promos or something along those lines. Just wondering whether anybody can tell me if there is much (if any) work for girls with tatts and piercings, or whether they should be covered/taken out to ensure a better success rate? Cheers in advance. Kym

Here's some info on looking

Here's some info on looking for work: http://www.theatre.asn.au/blog/na/looking_for_work_2 (Also check out the FAQ on finding agents) I can't think that having tatts and piercings will help. Depends on where they are and how coverable they are. Unfortunately, our industry uses the 'Hollywood' idea of beauty, which means people with tatts/piercings generally are typecast as bad guys, etc. It limits your options certainly. Oops... should have

Oops... should have mentioned: we're just talking film/TV here, which I assumed is what you meant. Theatre folk tend to be a bit more forgiving about tatts/piercings, but again, if you don't have the right look, you won't be hired. (I say this with every bit of respect to those with tatts/piercings. My sister is very much into that stuff and so I have a bit of an understanding as to how potential employers see them) Finger puppet pattern for under $4 at Puppets in Melbourne

Hey, yeah film & TV is what

Hey, yeah film & TV is what I meant. I had a look at your links too and FAQs. Glad I found out a little more about Black Box, as that is who I was about to pay $200 to. I thought they sounded a little too keen on the phone after I applied and sent my pics. Haha oh well. Thanks.

Sideline

In the UK and Europe there are specialist agencies who deal with different looks. There's one called The Uglys and another called Beasties and Bovver Boys. I have friends in the UK with lots of piercings and tatts who work through these agencies. I have however never heard of a specialist of this nature in Australia. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

Unique Looks

Hi Kym, Unique looks, physical features or unusual talents are always a valuable asset to possess in the entertainment industry. However, just having body art or piercings without any supporting performer skills may make your attempts to find acting work more challenging. If you are simply seeking to market your 'look' for extras work there is probably a good chance you could. There are plenty of agencies that only represent extras, and they would probably welcome any new people who have a look, or unusual features to add to their talent pool. A few phone calls to extras agencies and perhaps forwarding some pictures of your body art may secure you the sort of work you are looking for. Hope this helps, Tulipa
