Due to the discovery of an unexpected and serious problem with my health which requires fairly urgent surgery, I am forced to change the date of auditions for 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf'. The new date is Sunday 4th July at 2pm, venue remains the same - Playlovers, Hackett Hall, Draper St Floreat. I regret the inconvenience this will cause some people, but I have no alternative. I sincerely hope that everyting now goes as planned and I do not have to change it again! I have decided to accept the fact that many of our younger actors are not familiar with the story of Virginia Woolf, and give you a fuller picture of the play and its characters than I did previously. This is one of the greatest and most difficult plays ever written - in my opinion. It is the story of George and Martha who have a true love/hate relationship in their marriage. They genuinely cannot live with eachother, and cannot survive without eachother. So they have devised a series of games that they play - each one more sick and twisted and vicious than the last. Usually they play them in private, but this night Martha initiates a 'game' when they have company. Nick and his wife Honey are a young couple who have recently moved to town because Nick has been appointed to a position at the same College where George teaches. Nick is an ambitious young man, keen to make use of any connections he can forge. Honey is a 'dumb blonde' type with mental health problems. She has to be thin. I know I said previously that I didn't care what size, shape etc you were, but I have since realised that it is essential to the story that Honey be thin. To those of you who feel I have mislead you - I'm sorry! She also needs to play convincingly 'drunk' while maintaining an American accent. The tension in this play is already high at the beginning, and it builds and builds unremittingly to the very end. All four roles are demanding and challenging in the extreme. If any of these roles apppeal to you and you think you can meet the challenges they present, I would love to see you at audition. We will be working from the script, there is no need to prepare anything specific. Contact me at justsuse2003@yahoo.com.au or phone me on 9444 0986 if there is anything you wish to discuss. Cheers, Sue Hayward.
