Second Samuel News
Wednesday 7 April 2010
Well, I guess its time I told you all just what is going on with Second Samuel. The answer is....LOTS.
Nat Martin arrived a week ago, and just quietly slipped into place in the cast and in our hearts. I think that we all now feel that we have known him for years, not just days.
He is living with me at present, and is the most delightful house guest I (or anyone) could ever wish for. He even does odd jobs for me and helps with the washing-up! So far he has changed light bulbs that I couldn't reach, cleaned up my back yard in preparation for his own welcoming party, and attempted to unblock my kitchen sink. (I'm calling a plumber tomorrow.)
Perhaps the most important thing I need to tell you all is that Second Samuel is now flying the PLAYLOVERS flag. It is now being done as a fully amateur production under the auspices of Playlovers, and I wish to express my thanks to the Committee for rescuing us at a critical time. It will still be performed at Subiaco Arts Centre.
Rehearsals are going quite well, considering the problems involved in rehearsing in a space which bears no resemblance whatsoever to the stage we will be working on. This is a new experience for me, and, I think, for most of the cast. Most of the cast have never even seen the stage yet, let alone had a chance to walk around on it. We will have a total of three days to bump in, get techs right, and have maybe four rehearsals on the actual stage. Scarey stuff.
To add to the excitement/joy/headaches/stress/fear/problems/euphoria/etc, Stateline is going to do a story on us. Perhaps luckily for us, they won't be there until the second day of this probable schemozzle. They are going to interview several of us, film us finishing the set and rehearsing, then film parts of the preview performance. The story is planned to go to air on the 30th April - Opening Night.
Pamela Parker, the playwright arrives in Perth on the 18th April, and then our team will be complete.
Pray for me. Little did I know when I answered what appeared to be a totally random email all those months ago just what it would lead to. Please come and see the result. Both Pam and Nat will be available to chat and answer questions about anything at all in the Bar after the show. They are both very approachable, easy to talk to, and would love to meet you.
More news soon, Sue Hayward.
