Perth Basic Lighting Course Starting Sunday 13 Jan

INTRODUCTION TO THEATRE LIGHTING COURSE
After seeing the results of the survey (thanks Grant) I will be starting an Introduction To Theatre Lighting Course at The Garrick Theatre which is located in Meadow Street, Guildford (behind the Town Hall) from Sunday 13 January 2002 and run for four consecutive Sunday afternoons if that suits the participants. The course will run from 1pm to 5pm.

Rehearsals for "Funny Lovin' That Theatre" also run on a Sunday afternoon from 12 to 4 pm but we are alowed to use the theatre and the bonus is we may have some live performers available.

The cost will be joining the Garrick Theatre as a member to cover insurance, and we would love to think that you would like to do lighting at the Garrick to get experience. It costs $8 for junior, $15 for single and $25 for double membership. Members get to do the course for free.

If you are in Scouting or Guiding then there is no cost as you will be covered by activity insurance but you need to bring along a signed activity form. You can also join the Garrick if you want as it is a great way to learn about the theatre. I am the Lighting Director for the WA Gangshow and each year we train a lighting crew. It may fit into your award scheme. Contact me for more details.

The first Garrick production for 2002 is an outdoor cabaret directed by Jarrad West and the lighting is being done by Michael McCallum. We will look at this show and use it as an example when doing some of the practical work.

My speciality is dance so we will cover this as well as Drama. All participants will receive a set of notes and a certificate of completion or excellence depending on their participation. You will have to wear suitable shoes such as joggers, preferably jeans and the black t-shirt is optional, but be prepared to get dusty. We will also do lantern maintenance such as testing and cleaning. Spectators welclome but you cannot participate in the prac work unless covered by insurance.
