Part time courses? I just wanted to ask a question- I got some info sent out by the entertainment factory a while ago- it looks fantastic and really legit but I just can't afford the time and money this year. I got this letter yesterday from them saying that I could just pick up some units.. and get my Advanced Diploma over time or pick up full time next year... I was wondering coz there nationally recognised do you think if I did some units there and auditioned for both them and WAPPA next year my completed units could count towards my entry??? Does anyone know about the whole national recognition thing?!?!?! Was just curious - they start in two weeks and don't want to miss out if it counts for something!?!?

Re: Part time course count?!

I am glad you received our information :). Firstly any unit (module) you complete with us is nationally recognised as a part completion of an Advanced Diploma under our scope. I cannot speak for WAPPA or any other Uni or RTO whether or not it would sway entry. They decide entry on auditioned base - saying that however they do have to recognise you have gained competency for certain standards (depending on the unit you study with us) as we are recognised under the TAC as a registered training organisation that delivers a nationally recognised course.

If you do wish to complete your training with us any units gained over one year count towards your Advanced Diploma in the major accepted. I hope this helps somewhat.

I will note however that anyone else reading this we are only accepting between 10-15 applicants for part time training. If you wish to train with us for even one unit (such as Actor's Creativity or our Classical Major class) you must ring NOW. we have had a number of auditions and places are going quite quickly.

I hope this answers your query Phoebe?

Re: Part time course count?!

You are not going to be exempt from anything at WAAPA. With Bachelor courses, SOMETIMES units from lower level courses (eg. Diplomas) count towards your Bachelor, but rarely, and generally only between very well established institutions (eg. UWA / WAAPA), where the course content, structure and standard of tuition has been confirmed as being equivalent.

Re: Part time course count?!

That's not actually true -T . A Registered Training Organisation is just that - a Registered Training Organisation. Nationally recognised as being a certified training institute by the government NATIONALLY!. That means all trainers and assessors must possess certain qulifications and that all National AQTF standards are met- it means they can not be some shed teaching on a concrete floor taught b y a teenager. WAPPA or any other institute can not determine who they think are good or not- that is TAC's job. The Government!!! Saying that- the qual's are different and that will make an impact. But if they wanted to do the Advanced Diploma in Acting or Dance the quals are the same. What will make an impact is the competency you complete - as they are nationally accredited course the content is different and so performance criteria will be different so skills recognition may not apply. But as WAPPA are also a RTO as well as University they have to apply the same skills recognition as any other RTO in Australia. There is no secret club for recognition. It is the same as someone gaining life recognition that work with computers applying for credit at Curtin. They can't just go- oh well you didn't train with Murdock i'm not awarding you anything they are bound by the same governing bodies as everyone else. Go to the TAC website- check it out!!!

Hey sorry didnt get your

Hey sorry didnt get your name, but if your interested in doing part time diploma in the entertainment factory i say go for it, im doing it full time for the next two years but if you want to pick it up full time later then obviously your gonna have a step in before other people i say do as many part times units as you can, and if money is a problem just work your diploma over a few years! its an excellent oppurtunity to be able to kind of have the freedom to do watever classes you want to, dont you think well anyway, im brittany and im happy to help you with any information you want!!!!

Actually....while it is

Actually....while it is true that both places are RTO's, they only have to accept your units (Recognition of Prior Learning) if they are exactly the same, or if they decide they are close enough in content and standard. Now I don't know as much about the Acting or Dance courses at WAAPA, but i'm pretty sure in the Bach. of Music Theatre course the subjects would not correspond enough to gain RPL. However, if the Adv. Dip. courses had extremely similiar subjects then I'm sure they would consider RPL, but in the end, your probably not worse off if you do a subject again anyway. Anything up to an Advanced Dip would be easier to transfer...once you get into Bachelor territory it would get harder, as each institution becomes more individual in their delivery of the subjects. All the best!

Just added...

Hi Sam, I just added a page in the 'about' section (under 'about theatre') on courses. There are some suggestions there (by no means definitive, it will help you start). Otherwise, visit my website, www.thepromptcopy.com, and check out the links section. There are a whole bunch of universities listed there that you can check out.
