Re: SAME AS WAAPA
Just a correction Mitchell, but it's actually dance and acting that they offer the same qualification- Advanced Diploma. Thought I'd clear that up. I think it's great but I have been a loyal supporter for many years :).
Good Luck- hope to see you end of March!!!

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
Just make sure you know what you're getting into. I checked the fees for this course and they are more than 8 times the cost of the WAAPA courses. If its worth it go for it, but just make sure you're not getting ripped off.

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
does anyone else have any firsthand info on the course or the tutors at entertainment factory? Would love to know what graduates of the school have achieved. Sounds very interesting.

Hey Guys
just read thru all this hoo haah about the Entertainment Factory n i thought i'd share a few success stories, just to show that this place is the @!#$ n it can compare to anywhere.
Myself first coz im the best :) i could have quite comfortably made an easy living in Perth doing commercials, short films and TV series. They train you proper conduct during an audition, and if put into practice, the auditioner remembers you, this happened to me i spose coz in my second yr of studying and my first year out, i went for quite a few auditions and got a few of them. In one yr i was in a Debut Musical and 2 major ad campaigns, plus countless TV series. Now im livin in sydney, still goin to auditions, and still being the cliche actor, but now im dancing with the Brent Street performing arts troupe and Detour Management. after about 6 months of training and gettin my skills all up n runnin again, i'll be performing with the troupe at such events like CD launches, industry nights and the ARIAS. Plus, thanks to Tiffany's on-going lectures about networking (tee hee hee!) i've managed to keep in touch with the Librettist of Gabba Gabba Hey! and i've pretty much secured my role in the East Coast tour of the show! (PS, its had sold out seasons in Berlin and Switzerland, and is now having a Sell out season in New York)
Not bad for someone who started dancing when the where 18! (im now only 21) The course gave me the ability to hold my own against anyone in the industry, my first audition in Sydney was for Dusty, The Musical and i got to the final cut. The only reason i didnt get it was because i didnt look like any of the leads.
Now onto some other people... la de da
Me best friends have appeared in several tv series over here in sydney, there quite frequent on The Alice and HeadLand, and even though they where only extra's, they networked there way up the scale to have walk on parts and even featured roles. Another graduate has been considered for a role on Home and Away, and another was in a sydney production of The Vagina Monologues. Another graduate has just stepped out of the recording studio for Rage8 Records in perth!
Anyways, this little schpeel is just for the people who keep asking what sort of a name the graduates have made for themselves, and i hope this convinces you. It takes ages to break into the industry, but we're all definately on our way up!
And besides, if you want it bad enough, then you'll make it happen, tis as simple as that.
anyways, for some reason none of my communication devices work n the man im sittin next too at the net cafe kinda smells, so all my love to everyone at the studio, i miss u all, good luck with The Factory, tell me how it all goes, and would ppl email me please! :)
Cheers Guys! and good luck to those of you who choose to audition! its worth it!
Ciao!

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
I just thought I would let you know a few things being C.E.O of The Entertainment Factory who else better than me to answer queries.
1. Our trainers- please check out our website. We are extremely proud of our teachers and they all professionals and excellent trainers. Stehpen Lee (mentioned quite regularly on this site as being an absolutely amazing tutor of Acting, also nominated for Best Actor and Director for Finley awards) Noami Hanbury (who acts all over Perth is a WAPPA graduate herself and performed abroad in England as in soon appearing in Accidental Death) Justin Macnamara, Terea Izzard, Jayne Lee- this is to name a few.
2. Our Price- we are a private enterprise. We do not have the access to as many funds as a University - this is a fact. If you look at alot of Nationally Recognised courses (recognised anywhere in Australia) you have to be willing to pay the cost for the qualification, the opportunities and the pure contact hours. We offer a course that if around 28 hours a week depending of the units of competency chosen. It is an intense all round course to best suit our client and the industry needs. If you check out our website www.theentertainmentfactory.com.au it will also tell you that we do NOT ask for Full fees up front. We have weekly , fornightly and six weekly payment plans. We also offer Part Scholarships so students who are dedicated and talented can afford to study. As it is an Accredited Course students are eligable for Youth Allowance, Rent Assistance, and other benefits depending on your personal circumstances. We try to flexible as we can but it is fantastic course and fantastic things cost money. We also don't have HECS as we are not a Uni so what ever you pay for you're free and clear when you finish- not in debt for years to come.
3. Our successes- read Corey's article that will give you an incling into our training. I will add to that- two more of our graduates have been picked up by the respected Sydney Agent Encompass who see's showcases in both NIDA and WAPPA and who a great talent scout and agent. We have graduates performing in Melbourne, Sydney (Corey and others) and England as well. True none of them have Oscars yet :) but give them time.
4. We have a three Nationally Recognised courses that are delivered by us (The Entertainment Factory) a Registered Training Organisation. We are the only ones in W.A (apart from WAPPA) who offer a recognised qualification of this calibre. We are one in 4 in Australia (approximately- we know a few offer a Diploma but not an Advanced Diploma, they are Uni's or respect VET trainers). There are certain standards (AQTF) that we must follow - we can not rip people off. We created this company after 30 years in the training business because we believe there is alot of talent out there not being nutured.
I say this because the course does start soon! We have had many applicants but I am still searching for more of that special something, Potential, Dedication, raw talent. If you are willing and serious about your career please do not hesitate to contact me via the website or via phone. 08 9207 1945.
I hope to receive all of your audition applications - soon, Do not miss out and regret it.
Yours Sincerely
Olivia Collier

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
WAAPA offers a BA in Music Theatre, not the Advanced Diploma which is awarded to Acting grads.
I don't know anything about the Entertainment Factory, I'm sure they're fine but remember they are private, commercial trainers whereas elite training academies like NIDA and WAAPA, as they are funded, can afford to have small classes of quality people.
If they are worth the money, it'd be a great way to improve your skills to get to where you want to get.

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
That's a great point Jen. WAPPA offer a Musical theatre BA but the entertainment factory offer an Advanced Diploma. They offer the same as WAPPA for acting and dance (one of the quals) also they are not funded although that could change though I hear on the grapevine.
In my opinion they are still an elite training company though. They only except thirty applicants a year (ten in each major) and ten part time students. That's pretty elite considering they streamline their classes. You might only have five people in a class so you get one on one attention- even in the dance classes. Probably a contributing factor to the price I would say. Well that's what I get from C.E.O's little speech ;) .
Look I am make no qualms about being a huge supporter of them- I know their trainers, I have been in their showcase and seen others and have auditioned and been accepted for the 2006 course.
I just had to comment coz you are right on the money. It is a great way to get to where you want to go. I know I intend to ;)

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
All I can say is at least you have a choice of 2 places in WA who both have a great reputation. In SA we have nothing in MT, I would pay anything to be able to study MT in my home town.
The Entertainment Factory is like all private institutions who need the fees to pay teachers, venue etc etc. It may not be cheap but no different to its counterparts in the Eastern States who roughly charge the same.
If you want something bad enough you will pay for good tuition. And for those not fortuneate enough to get into WAAPA your option sounds fantastic.

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
I think "same as WAAPA" is debatable. I've seen performances from both institutions and they're very, very different.

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
I think he was referring to the nationally recognised Qualification being the same! Advanced Diploma and all that :)
1. Of Course their different , their not a Uni, they have their own approach, they do completely different things. I think it's good to be different. There is a lot of people who dig "different". Considering 2 of their graduates have been picked up by an InterState agent maybe "different" is good. Maybe different if fresh.
2. Secondly if you check out their website, they have changed the lay out of their showcase (not that there has been a showcase as The Entertainment Factory yet) so that it caters more to the individual performer and graduate. So all students get there turn in showcase.
I don't think they are claiming to be the "same" as WAPPA a Uni of god knows how many years with a nearly impeccable record. I do think they are offering talented performers a chance as an alternative to WAPPA to still earn a sought after qualification when WAPPA only take 15 nationally a year. It is a good thing for Perth. "Different" but good.

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
Waapa Music Theatre is a DEGREE course, not a Diploma course.
The qualification is not the same.
But then again, talent doesnt need any qualification!!
But know the course structure and the qualification is very different.

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
Isn't it true that the qualification is the same though for Acting? And don't WAPPA offer Advanced Diploma in Dance as well that's also the same qualification. I know they don't have the same structure i checked out their webstites-as even the length is different but I thought the two of the qualifications are still recognised the same (by government) - I'm Confused!?!

WAAPA does have a CERTIFICATE in MT

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
But an Advanced Diploma is above that in MT is that right?!? Certificate- Diploma-Advanced Diploma- BA. Is that the order of things??? I am just trying to figure out where an Advanced Diploma lies in the whole shceme of things

Re: SAME AS WAAPA
Yes your right Phoebe in both questions
