Re: BYE BYE BIRDIE

I'm playing the part of Albert Peterson. Originally performed by Dick Van Dyke. I havn't seen it before, but i've heard alot of the music and it's fantastic.

Thanks for the "chookas."

Re: BYE BYE BIRDIE

No worries:) Albert's a great part - the male lead and some great songs! It's such a fun musical I hope you enjoy it!!! I suggest NOT watching the movie before you do the show tho!

There are 2 versions - the Dick Van Dyke version which unfortunately is not very close to stage show at all (as they usually do with movies) it finishes at the end of Act 1, altho they do manage to sneak in a scene from Act 2, but most of the songs are in it, except 'Kids' is sung by Mae Peterson instead of Mr & Mrs McAfee. And the second version has Jason Alexander and Vanessa Williams - this is exactly the same as the stage show however I felt it was a lame/overdone version!

I definatley recommend watching them afterwards tho out of interest, particularly the Dick Van Dyke version as the cast is fabulous:)

Re: BYE BYE BIRDIE

Really? Well when I did "singin' in the rain" at the playhouse theatre not long ago, I watched the movie loads of times, but mainly to get little details about the character. When I do watch a movie if i'm doing the stage version of it, i'm doing it to pin point, certain aspects of the character, which gives me a certain advantage. I don't ever do it to COPY the originaly. That's just stupid. But you gotta admit, sometimes it is good to stay close to what ppl r familiar with. Please tell me if you disagree.

I downloaded some of the songs off the net, they r so cool. Do you remember the song, "Baby, talk to me?? " It's absolutly fantastic, so romantic. haha.

Thanks.

Re: BYE BYE BIRDIE

Oh I'm not saying don't watch them at all, it's just if you want to get a perspective on what the show is like, the original movie is so different from the show and quite a lot is changed, moved around or cut out. And the newer one, altho true to the script, i just thought was dreadful. But if you want to get an idea of your character then watch both as Dick Van Dyke and Jason Alexander are quite diff and it will show you a few sides to him - and I LOVE the original movie cast too - Paul Lynde as Mr MacAfee is HILARIOUS!! Yeah the song 'Baby, Talk To Me' is great! Unfortunately it was cut from our show tho:(

Well I hope you enjoy doing the show as much as I did - definately one I would like to do again someday! They did a sequal - 'Bring Back Birdie' in 1981 with Donald O'Connor and Chita Rivera (reprising her role) set 20 yrs later where they try to get the retired Conrad Birdie to make an appearance on the Grammy Awards - it failed miserably and closed after 4 performances! Sometimes I think it's best not to fix things that are broken!! lol

Have fun and let me know how it all goes:) And as different as the original movie is to the script - I still love it anyhow as I saw it first! A bit like A Chorus Line - if you saw the stage show first you would hate the movie as it's so different but if you saw the movie first.....

:)

Re: BYE BYE BIRDIE

Thankfully, "baby, Talk to me" is still in our show.

My mum ordered both versions of the movie on Amazon.com ( did i already tell you that?)

I was so surprised at how well Jason Alexander can sing. When I heard hims ing those few times on Seinfeld, I thought nothing of it. You know, alot of ppl sound good if they r just mucking round. But he can actually sing.

Well unfortunatly I havnt had the pleasure of seenig many musicals on stage. I saw Singin' in the Rain with Todd McKenney at Burswood when I was a kid. But coz i'm in Perth ( where r u ? ) we don't get much over here, and when we do, its either too expensive, coz its like a one off thing....or something like that, you know what i mean?

rehearsals are going good for bye bye birdie. i cant wait till it opens.

if ya wanna keep chattin, why dont u email me. we can talk more about musicals and that. hehe.
