Next January 10th - 13th "Rosetta" will be staged (independently) at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre. This opera has been written by West Australian Frank Wood and is based very loosely on the true story of a tragic murder that occured in the locality of Marrinup (100kms south of Perth) on a lonely orchard property 92 years ago.

An Italian widower is bringing up his three daughters and has just betrothed his eldest Rosetta to a cousin who is coming out from Italy. A young Australian orchard worker Marcus arrives and the story deals with the disapproval of the father when romance develops between Rosetta and Marcus, and the story ends in tragedy with an 'axe murder' to end the show!

We are looking to cast this show during this year, and then concentrate the main body of rehearsals over Dec (2006) and early Jan next year. We have the Centre booked from the 8th Jan.

Any interested parties who would like to have a sing for us please ring Frank Wood on 08 97331371.............(Western Australia obviously, and that's a Waroona number for those who are wondering.)

We are looking for capable voices with operatic ability -

Papa - Bass Baritone
His daughters Rosetta 20 Soprano
Angelina 19 Mezzo
Marguerita 18 Alto

Marcus 21 Light Baritone

Gus Spagoni (neighbouring farmer) Bass
Maria his wife Alto

Bruno 21 (their son) Tenor

Two younger sons tenor/baritone
three younger daughters 1 soprano and 2 altos.

This opera is delightful! The Spagoni family are only on for one scene..........about 15 minutes or so in length and most of them are only involved in chorus work.

The other roles are larger.

Ring Frank (the author/composer) 97331371 if you are interested and he will fill you in on all the details.
Thankyou, Carole Dhu - Director
