A Whinge in Poorly Constructed Couplets
Wed, 18 Jan 2006, 04:55 pmIt seems to me it's so unfair
To study PA anywhere
The government thinks I earn so much
My poor offspring can have no such
Thing as any allowance at all
To stay within the residential hall
No youth allowance to spend and nay
No help when interstate they stay
Not even one small brass razoo
To pay the rent when it is due
I pay my taxes, I pay my rates
I phone my Centrelink and waits
"We'd like to help but it's too hard
But she can have a low-income card
It will help her ride the bus
So that's what you gets from us!"
I wouldn't moan and I wouldn't curse
If things didn't keep on getting worse
I didn't mean to moan and bitch
But I'm really not that freakin' rich!

Re: A Whinge in Poorly Constructed Couplets
We hear your cry, oh Cayra Fair,
This crap is happening everywhere,
And though we scream and bitch and moan,
It's hard as hell to get a loan.
But do not fear oh Cayra dear,
This plight is held by all your peer,
We too have waited on the phone,
We too have no cash of our own.
And so all people on this site,
Will feel the same as you at night,
"Where will I kip, to rest my head?"
Oh what the @!#$... Rest when you're dead!
This crap is happening everywhere,
And though we scream and bitch and moan,
It's hard as hell to get a loan.

Re: A Whinge in Poorly Constructed Couplets
Cayra I sympathise with you. I too am going throught the same plight except I have one daughter going to waapa in perth, one daughter going to the sing over king in sydney and my youngest in Melbourne modelling in fashion week. They all leave within the next week. My husband and I are working to give our kids a chance in the areas they want to follow. The system makes it difficult.
What do ppl think, is it the rich kids that make it cos the parents can afford to send them or can anyone tell me from experience how hard it is to do everything yourself. Or is that what parents are for, its our choice.
The system does suck.

Re: A Whinge in Poorly Constructed Couplets
DNAH.. She got into Central Queensalnd Conservatory (and Monash and Rockhampton and possibly Wagga) A bit disappointed not to get WAAPA but realistically a lot of talented people missed out on that one
Mackay's a BA in Musical Theare so she's happy
It's a bit warmer too... she'll only be twenty when she finishes and I guess the hard part starts then
It gets me down that it's so hard for us to support her up there ... even though my wife and I both work and earn a reasonable wage... she's happy to work part time... I really thought she might get some assistance with accomodation as there's no Uni courses in MT in SA
