24 Hour Show Adelaide
Wed, 18 Jan 2006, 07:35 amAdelaide ppl if you didnt see the 24 Hour Show on Sat night you missed out big time.
24 Hour Show at Her Majesty'e Theatre Adelaide raising money for kids with cancer was a Great Show and extremely funny.
It was amazing. Auditions were on Friday night with 130 ppl. They audition everyone selecting cast within 15 min. Rehearsal began immediately. Rehearsal from 8pm to 12am Friday night then back at 8am Sat until end of show.
Guys and Dolls was the musical and no one knew what musical they were doing until all the cast were selected. They performed the whole show. 2 1/2hrs of dialogue, song and dance learnt in 24 hours. The sets were made in 24hrs. The orchestra was selected and the full score mastered in 24 hrs. Lighting and tech in 24 hours.
Yes lines were forgotten but adlibed. Some songs were forgotten but covered up with comedy. Just a brilliant cast. Never laughed so much in all my life.
Guys and Dolls is not a favourite of mine but I would pay to see this again.
Together with the Triple MMM morning crew and Aussie Olympian basketballer Rachel Sporn. Funny Funny Funny
Well done to my friend Sarah who was just the best Hot Box Dancer, what a standout.

Re: 24 Hour Show Adelaide
Yeh, saw the show. It was excellent.
Scot McBain, Jane Reilley and Cosi please dont give up your day job. Triple MMM is where you belong not on stage, but they were funny having no talent. Shame John Blackman didnt have a big part but was told he had a "dicky knee" he he he.
In fact he did have a knee operation.
Sarah is a star!!!!!!!!!
Good luck with your audition in Sydney babe.

Hey Y, I didnt see any ""STIP" show. Did you leave out the 'r' on purpose. "R" for she's "Ridiculously" good looking.
Der in Guys and Dolls the Hot Box girls are suppose to dance like that, but I agree with you y about one thing, Reilley and Sporn, Should Not be doing that kind of dancing on stage.
Couldnt keep my eyes of Sarah hubber hubber. She can " STIP" and dance like that anyday. Bumma it was only down to a leo or watever you call the costume.
Move baby move.

Did she steal someones Limelight?
Or do you know her Y?
Or perhaps a friend of yours?
I dont know her personally but 'Sarah' is very talented young lady, I was mesmerised by her commitment to her performances in both the 24 Hour Show and Shout.
The 24 Hour Show is a credit to everyone involved, Guys and Dolls gave us everything, including much humour and spontaneity.
I review many theatre performances and would like to congratulate everyone on a job well done. It is not my practice to single one performer out but concentrate on a few outstanding performances, however 'Sarah' has been congratulated on this forum by many friend's no doubt.
I thoroughly enjoyed the performances of the Hot Box Dancers, funny, suggestive but not offensive. Sarah emulated the original perfectly with personality and dance expertise.
The Havanna dancers brought colour and vibrance however lacked experience but as they mature and grow as performers, the potential is there for the future.
For those in the industry, look out for the next 24 Hour Show auditions, the achievement is amazing.

Re: 24 Hour Show Adelaide
..... loved the girl who played Adelaide, she so reminded me of Karen from Will and Grace. Spoke the same and just as funny, if not funnier.
Loved her songs----the ones she forgot, they were just so funny I nearly wet myself. Improvision was incredible.

Hey Cera. We cant give our real names cos everyone will know who we are. Its a secret. Ppl are just giving credit when credit is due
I am amazed that anyone would put on a show in just 24 hours. What a great concept. Is any other state doing this????
Personally this sort of performance makes the true performers stand out. I was blown away by some of the artists. Even when the lines were forgotten the adlibing was so so well done. A great comedy. I have seen guys and dolls many times too but have to say this was the best and of course the funniest.
Hey I hope what 'y' said was a joke. If not , this person has obviously not see Guys and Dolls before. Have the whole group of Hot Box Dancers perform like Cera and wow that would be something. It was totally in the context of the musical plus remember it was raising money for kids with cancer. Total entertainment. The Triple MMM cast were hysterical

Re: Musical Theatre in Adelaide
Adelaide produces great talent in musical theatre, its a shame there is nothing to keep our artists here. Most move interstate to further their careers.
No Musical Theatre Courses in Adelaide at all.
No Musical Theatre Courses in Adelaide at all.

NOT rehearsed in 24 hours...
Actually, Im going to be brutally honest...
First up - At least 4 of the actors playing their main roles had played their roles before... The question "Who has been in the show before" was part of the audition process... So really... for the mains at least, it wasn't rehearsed in 24hours at all, because they've previously been rehearsing months for other productions of Guys and Dolls...
No surprises there... Perfectly good actors were turned away because they hadn't played the roles they were auditioning for before...
Also - Ridiculously - ONE girl was turned away from the audition for female chorus because they only needed 9 girls... and she was the 10th... Why not take 10? It's a charity event for christs sake... AND they let the public watch the auditions, much to the poor girls humiliation when she was turned away and made to walk down the aisle herself...
Cera - If you were the tall blonde girl with the wide shoulders - I'll tell you why everyone was watching you - You were totally upstaging every single other person on-stage, including the mains, and including the celebs... It was totally embarassing for people in the audience to watch... People were actually laughing... It was like watching a barbie-doll on speed... So maybe just get down off your high horse and have a little dignity. You were in the chorus... But I had friends that were expecting you to break into a solo because of the way you were setting yourself up...
Honestly - They show was fun - Yes, it was entertainment...
But people need to stop gushing, because it wasn't everything it was cracked up to be...

Re: NOT rehearsed in 24 hours...
Oh wat a shame. You poor thing you obviously missed out. Were you the 10th girl????? Or did you miss out on one of the lead parts.
Negative critiques happen when ppl dont get in or dont get what they want.
But you are entitled to your own opinion.
For actors who know their parts, they forgot alot on the night and the comedy was hilarious.. Actually anyone in musical theatre should know songs, dialogue from most stage shows. I know heaps of dialogue and songs from many and I bet others in MT reading these post would say the same. Most ppl who auditioned hoped it was one they knew. I've been singing dancing and acting since I could walk so whats new. If you study any MT course you familiarise yourself with as many stage shows as you can. But really Who cares. IT WAS RAISING MONEY FOR KIDS WITH CANCER. And thats what was so special about the comedy, the overacting and stand outs. There were a few chorus guys who adlibed and gave it their all. Like the on chore of 'sit down your rockin the boat'. That was unscript, instigated and unrehearsed by a chorus guy. A brilliant job he did. The show was not about up staging the lead roles. It was fun and entertaining and remember this show was for a special purpose. Cast were told to give it their all. Overact, make it fun, entertain the audience.
Life has drawbacks. Everyone has to deal with rejection whether its in front of a live audience or a tv audience like Aust Idol etc. So what.
If your in the theatre game you have to be thick skinned.
I just hope the next is Chicago or Cabaret or Steppin Out etc ect I know them back to front.
Cera is the sweetest girl out and when she is told to perform like she did and give everything to an audience, what more can you want.
Jax is just Jaxed off.

Re: NOT rehearsed in 24 hours...
Anyone thinking of a career in theatre, musical theatre, dance be prepared for guys like JAX.
I didnt think this forum was about vilifying ppl but you always get those who are jaxed off about something or someone who is better than them. Hey Jax, not related to 'y' or are you that person, just changed your name.
I was one of the lead roles in the show. I personally had not performed the whole show before but did know some of the score. You only hope when you audition thats it one that you know or have done before.
The whole show is rehearsed in 24 hours. Whether you had performed the musical before or not, is irrelavent. Remembering 100 pages plus of script in 24 hours and interacting with others and knowing your cue, oh and theirs. Yeah thats easy, right. Even if some had performed Guy's and Dolls before, it wasn't like it was yesterday and the script was fresh in their minds. I think anyone is theatre would know what I am saying.
No one knew what the show was until after the audition but I dont have to justify this to anyone.
Jealous ppl should keep their traps shut when they dont know circumstances. Cera should be commended in performing as she was instructed and adapting quickly to the instant changes made on stage, she is an amazing girl and the first time I have met her. Cera, in fact, spent alot of her time during the day assisting Jane Reilley and Rachel Sporn learning the dance routines.
Upstaging was never an issue in this production. Its obvious that someone doesnt like her getting the attention. Well, did she get ALL the attention?? Jane Reilley and Rachel Sporn got most of the laughs in the dance segments. Two celebs who have never danced a step in their lives making the most of their debut in the limelight. Thats who the audience came to see and if there was any upstaging it was all of the celebs in the performance.
The orchestra also had to learn the score and the music was not entirely the same as it was on the CD we rehearsed with. That made singing some of the song difficult but interesting. Same with the dance routines, that what I meant by adapting on stage. We all had great fun.
Realistically what are we talking about here - what was it- 3 dance routines at maybe 2-3 minutes each in a 2 1/2 hour show. Oh yeah I really felt upstaged.
I get so irrate when ppl shoot their mouths off and not know the person.
I remember a couple of years ago auditioning for a show in front of a packed audience in Melbourne. There were only 3 of us auditioning for this particular part, we auditioned separately then came back on stage. The other 2 got the part and I was left standing. Not a good feeling but this is the industry. Get over it. Move on - do another show
The 24 hour show was an amateur production for the McDermot McGinness Foundation. Childhood Cancer. How anyone in their right mind can point the finger at organisers or individuals is beyond me. It was for a special cause and was not a professional production. We all had fun together and upstaging never entered anyones head. It was just a fantastic group of ppl
I really dont have to say more, ppl on this site can make up their own minds about 'y' and 'jax'. Its easy to sprout bull sh#t when your behind a computer and noone knows who you are.
Seems this site is full of idiots who have too much time on their hands to personally 'bag' others. Too many green eyed monsters.

it's just 24 hours!!!
Bravo Fosse
The ego maniac/s who are slamming the cast have gained nothing but disrespect. Come on guys, this is Adelaide. We're not all that huge in the scheme of things. Can we please just stick together and show some support for a frickin great cause?
This has been going on for weeks and we're talking about a 24 HOUR show. Obviously it was pretty memorable.
amateur - "for the love of"
in my opinion this applies to everyone involved in amateur theatre- the cast, the crew, the management and the audience.
There are a lot of amateur critics on this forum who enjoy the sound of their own voices. They will never be pro.
Unlike Cera who will go all the way to the top. And who is far too mature to be offended by all the crap that has infested this forum.

Re: it's just 24 hours!!!
Congrats to all those involved... performers and organisers
I think it's pretty unfair to say the show's no put on in 24 hours because some people have done the same musical before... Pretty hard to find a musical that no-one has done... and it's fairly logical to cast someone who knows the part
Not sure what all the complaining is about ....but it's a shame that something positive for Adelaide theatre gets knocked for obscure reasons

Well I was one of the leads...I can assure you that i had not done the show before let alone the role....I wish I had. learning all those songs and dialogue, and forgetting them infront of an audience was an amazing, daunting, bizarre experience...but aparently it was entertaining !

And to be brutally honeset, people who had done roles before were passed over for those who hadn't!
AND...
People who had done the roles hadn't done them for 20 years...
Or had done the concert version (significantly different)...
Or...
Long and the short, the whole thing was simply a stack of fun (from within at least!).

He He , I was in the audience and had a blast. You guys were just fab!!!!
A fact of life is " you always get one who tries to spoil the fun" but really it has opened up this topic and shows how a brilliantly funny show can be put together and was appreciated widely by a majority and raised money for a great cause. Irrespective of one person point of view, who obviously has a few alias's.
LW you were amazing, whether you forgot or not, is not the point. Entertainment is what I paid for and is what I got and its great that the proceeds went to kids with cancer.
