Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

I think i am going to find a place to rent off campus. Because i like my own space and it is not realy cheaper to stay on campus anyway. i hope i meet someone at the BBQ who i can rent a 2 bedroom place with.

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

I am arriving from Adelaide and have requested student accommodation cos I thought maybe the interstate BA and Cert Music Theatre ppl may do the same to start with but now I'm not so sure now.
Any suggestions or experiences?

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

Definetly hook up with someone at the bbq.

Student village is horrible. And you want to be able to get away from the place.

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

im now thinking of getting short term accommodation, say for the first three months, then moving out with someone after i now them better. it scares me to think i could live with someone after a few hours at a BBQ.

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

Sorry Ad but are you male or female.? I am thinking the same way. I will stay in student accomodation till I find a place. Its too hard trying to chose a unit on the net without physically seeing it and anything decent is 160plus per week. Will probably have to share but I would like to know some ppl first. Cant wait though, its all very exciting.

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

I am in the Cert and probably going around the 5th Feb. Got my info and it says arrive 1-2 weeks before o-week. I also got the Cabaret Club newsletter and some of these social events look interesting. Although it does say for BA students, I have asked if the social events are open to cert students as well

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

a good thing to do and the way most people do it is not just wait til the BBQ to meet people but also just starting calling people who are in 2nd or 3rd yr, we're all happy to hear from anyone and are happy to answer any questions or just have a chat about fears, excitment etc. I will just warn you, by living in student accomodation for a few months and then seeing who you'd like to live with could be very difficult, a few months in everyone will have found places to live and id say near impossible to find someone to live with and believe me because of how busy we are and how much spare time we DONT have you will not want to be moving mid term.
Unfortunately you just have to risk it, grab someone who you get on well with and yes its a risk but were all in the same boat. Also student acc. is HIDEOUS and soooooooo much more expensive than living in a share house. Everyone is here to support the new first years, we've all been through it. Have you recieved your list of our details yet? you should have got a list of the years above you with phone details and which state were from. Give anyone a call, were all here to help. Hope thats some help! Good luck, i might here from you or see you there!

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

No Charity I have not received any names etc. Maybe cos I'm doing the Certificate. The letter I received had what to bring, a list of musicals to become familiar with and the Cabaret Club Newsletter.

I have just emailed the president of the Cabaret Club and asked a few questions I know from this forum there are a few from NSW doing the cert course but there has been no further postings from them to know what they are doing.

Thanks so much for your info

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

From memory, in the ECU student accomodation you share (two bathrooms 1M/1F and one kitchen) with about five other random people and the bedrooms are the size of cupboards. Not sure if all that has changed though....

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

I would 2nd this, as someone going into 3rd year BA, its a real bitch to have to move mid semester as you have NO time... if you can its best to grab people and then try and find maybe a 6 month lease... Most of the time it works out, but you are at school a lot of the time and you'll probbaly find yourself at other peoples houses pretty often too (Like SERENITY, you'll learn to love it).

As for the social events, nearly all of them are actually cabaret Club fundraisers that aswell as being social are there to raise money for the 3rd years show case, so the more people there the merrier.

If anyone has other questions feel free to contact me as well.. I'll be happy to help, as you will find pretty much any 2nd or 3rd year will be happy to help you out, if you need information or a lift from the airport, or a point in the right direction.... We even have a microwave for sale should anyone need one!!

you can contact me on janty_30@hotmail.com.

Good luck

Matt

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

Noooo 1st years dont do it to yourself!!! Student Village is a hell hole!!! I Know it's strange moving in with people you dont know, but it all works out! even if u dont get along! Has any BA students got a list of the 2nd and 3rd years? on that matter has any 2nd or 3rd year got a list of 1st years? Can't wait to meet you 1st years, and dont stress about exposure day!! it's something we all go through!!! and get over!

Re: WAAPA Student Accommodation-Where are interstate people stay

Hi Lucy ,
I'm from Perth so don't have far to travel to get to Waapa!. We have received an outline of Cabaret club events that take place early next year and I presume that the intro BBQ is where we meet interstate people for the first time? I'm holidaying in Melb for a week from Jan 12th so if anyone can spare an afternoon for coffee or drinks it would be great to meet u...(I will try not to bombard you with questions!)
