WAAPA acceptance info
Mon, 28 Nov 2005, 02:52 pmJust got back from my Music Theatre certificate callback...
Went well - only sang one song but got through the whole thing, same with my monologue.
They said they still had many people to get through and they would let me know.
Does anyone know when we get the letter/phone call?

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
They told me I'd hear from them by the end of next week. That was slightly more positive than last year, when they said "thank you" and I got my rejection letter a month later in the mail!

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
HI,
I was in the Music theatre certificate course at waapa this year. Last year after my call back audition they rang me a week later to let me know that I had been accepted. Otherwise they send you out a letter in the mail a month later like aeva said.
GOOD LUCK ALL!! and if you are accepted give it all you've got because it will be a fantastic year.

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
Haha so what does that mean, if a certificate graduate doesn't get through to the first call back? Must be a pretty damn high standard. I wonder what they're REALLY looking for? It'll always be a mystery....

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
Very true,
A few of my friends have recieved call backs though. There is so many differant aspects that go into the pannels decision I'm sure. Vocal range, training and of course the one we all know age. The BA course is so much more demanding than the certificate in every aspect too, so no there is no way to tell what they are looking for from year to year. The only thing they have said though is "The package", I guess you really, really have to do a stand out performance in your audition and push your performing boundaries.

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
Thats excellent feedback Link. I dont think I could have done any more in my audition. I pushed every boundry and gave all I had. Thats all you can do and its up to them whether they like you or not. The song I had planned to sing today was my uptempo but David asked for the ballad. Thats cool but not my preference.
I figure, if I happen to get into the Cert. the training at WAAPA will do me good and I will know what is expected next year for the BA. I have just left school with really only a dancing backgound so the singing and acting will be excellent.
I really hope you get it aeva, all sounds positive for you.

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
If the CERT course is part time, are the classes two full days per week or every night. How do they work it. The BA would be during the day, I heard the Cert is at night, but how many nights?
Hey guys, the ones who did the cert. what jobs did you have while studying the CERT. Oh and did you have exams and assignments or is it just performance stuff.
Sorry so many questions but I am interested or nosey whatever

waapa MT cert
The cert course is run tuesday and wednesday nights from 6-9 and saturday afternoons 1-6, at the end of first semester we had dance assessments, and most weeks in theory we had a written assignment. At the end of the year there was a written theory exam.

Re: waapa MT cert
Thanks for that. Did you end up doing the BA course? What were the dance lessons for the cert. like was it beginners, intermediate or advanced standard?
Walter PlingeTue, 29 Nov 2005, 11:33 am
Re: waapa MT cert
I would say intermediate - it wasn't super technical dancing but I wouldn't say it was beginners either. We did have a couple of people in our year who had never danced before so they struggled a bit.
Also the most important thing is the performance pracs - once every three weeks you have to prepare and perform a piece for your tutor and peers. The piece should be at performance standard.
And at the end of your course you present a showcase of solo singing, acting pieces and group dance pieces to your family. peers and the staff at WAAPA mt.

working full time whilst studying at waapa
a question for ex-cert people...
i'm working full time during the day at the moment. in reality, do you think i'm gonna be able to manage the workload between work and after hours classes at waapa. how much extra rehearsal time did you guys need? and was this generally done on weekends or weekdays?

Re: working full time whilst studying at waapa
I'd say the vast majority of this years cert class worked full time. There isn't any extra rehearsal time other than the time you set aside for your own practice and to do assignments

Re: working full time whilst studying at waapa
I did it and worked full time at the same time.

Re: WAAPA acceptance info
I have been fascinated for years about what WAPA looks for in their potential students. Does anyone know and has anyone ever asked ?
