Opera Australia Pinafore/Trial on ABC
Thu, 8 Sept 2005, 11:31 amAfter a break of many years Opera Australia are making a return to ABC TV.
Their new production of HMS Pinafore / Trial By Jury starring Anthony Warlow will be Telecast on Monday 19 September.
Hopefully this means they will start doing this more regularly again.
And hopefully it means they will start releasing some of their older broadcasts on DVD.
At the moment only the Baz Luhrmann "La Boheme" is available on DVD [two bits of trivia: this recording was the first full-length Opera released on DVD and the highest selling opera on DVD in the world], but they have MANY more that were released on Video, and some that were broadcast only.
Hopeflly they will release the Graeme Murphy "Turandot" and the Lindy Hume "Fledermaus"
On another point - next year's new productions include The Pirates of Penzance with Warlow as the Pirate King and David Hobson as Fredric (Sydney only).

I just received a very nice email from people who should know...
Apparently the telecast of Pinafore/Trial is scheduled for later in the year.
The above mentioned was broadcast on ABC Classic FM.
The email goes on to say that there are plans to release their back catalogue.
YAY!!!
So no holding breath, let's see what happens, and if it does happen I for one will be a very happy man.
