Personally I'd be surprised if DUSTY really took off. Note: this is filling Melb's State Theatre January spot which can not have a really long run due to the venue's opera and other commitments later- Mitchell could only be committed to the Melb run. Just a thought
Don't think you were as clear as you might have been Robbo.
The story at broadwayaustralia, of what I have seen of it, is a lot less certain than you make out -
Dusty The Musical is expected to have its official opening night on January 12 next year at the State Theatre in Melbourne, BroadwayAustralia.com understands. The show is likely to open in Sydney on Thursday, March 23 at Star City's Lyric Theatre.
Eg "expected" & "likely", not "already comitted" as you wrote.
What is more, if the Sydney bow was "already committed", why isn't there any mention of that @ the show's official website - www.dustythemusical.com?
Why, also, is there absolutely no mention of Dusty's Sydney run at www.ticketek.com.au? Ticketek is the sole ticket seller for shows at The Lyric in Sydney.
I just went for the 2nd callback for Elphaba, and you'll never guess who i was reading with, none other than Delta Goodrem as Galinda. She was quite good actually, but it will be interesting to see how she goes up against Lisa McCune. (I'm reading with her at the next callback)
It has been reported elsewhere, officially, that the show has not been confirmed and is nowhere near the audition process.
This HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY SAID by the producers.
In addition, no agent has been given audition details. Mrs Sondheim, you must be extremely talented, given you're getting callbacks before the auditions have even begun!
I'm afraid your woeful attempt to demean my experiences of auditioning for wicked are a jeolous cry of sour grapes! I'm afraid that you're so busy reading articles on the internet about the production that you never stop to think that there are not going to be open auditions, that the producers do not want the public to be aware of the happenings!
Also i was told who i would be reading with next because the creative team thought it necessary to team up potential Galindas/Elphabas.
Delta Goodrem has been out of the country for weeks and will only just get back in time for the AFL Grand Final tomorrow, hence she was not around for your apparent "audition" with Wicked.
Louise Withers clearly went to Broadwayaustralia.com to clear up the confusion surrounding the auditions. She said there was no auditions happening and that the rights for the show haven't even been secured.
I am reasonably involved in the theatre industry in Sydney primarily when it comes to agents and I can tell you no agent has sent any client to an audition for Wicked - because quite simply, there is no auditions.
And on the very rare chance you are actually telling the truth, then I hope the producers of the show read this website and figure out who you are - which wouldn't be so hard given you've listed who you've been and will be apparently reading with. Producers don't like the beans spilling from auditions.
There appear to be two Mrs Sondheims running around - one incredibly deluded and the other incredibly unaware (ie me).
"Mrs Sondheim" - Without wanting to start a nickname war, I have been on this site for a little while now and you seem to have usurped my name.
FYI Robbo, I actually know nothing about the Wicked auditions and were Lisa McCune actually auditioning for Galinda, I wouldn't even see the show.
I have no problem changing my nickname if this imposter wishes to keep it, but I would like everyone to know that I have certainly not auditioned for Elphaba and have never met Delta Goodrem (also, never want to).
well this is just confusing... i beleive that u, mrs sondheim, are covering up :-o mmhm thats rite... oh yes uhu. oh well... i luv the musical and i just want to se it... really bad... i think ill go to New York instead.
Ah...yeah. 101 reasons to hate the internet and its unintelligent friends. For the record, Elphaba, I am not covering up anything. I genuinely dislike Delta Goodrem and Lisa McCune and would never advocate them as possible Galindas. Also, I'm not deluded enough to believe that a professional show would have open casting calls that reach to, say, an amateur actor in Perth. Which I am. Please, by all means, go to New York. Bye.
Agreed! Also, what's with people pretending they have call backs in the first place, regardless of whether or not they're trying to steal my husband? Give my regards to Andrew, by the way.
Will do. He's very busy at the moment, writing a new musical around my voice. Sarah Brightman is SO last century. When he's done composing it and the auditions are ready, I'll let you know. You can bring Delta and Lisa if you like.
Hi! I like wicked. You guys are cool i wish i was like you :-)... please dont fight :-( its not very nice :-( Lets all be happy and just enjoy our musicals... and enjoy the beauty that is... WICKED. dun Dun DUN ... now whatever way's our stories end, i know you have re-written mine by being my friend...
hey guys sorry, but i dont understand why you guys are fighting over this crap? it so stupid... we want the show to be magnificent! not full of bitchyness! its an awesome musical and it should be treated with respect...
who gives a crap who gets which role... in the end, the producer will pick the best and only the best! obviously people dont understand that this show must be completely professional, they will only hire professionals!
contradiction time: delta is good singer, yet she doesnt fit into a musical as she has a soft voice! i dont think she would be able to hold those massive notes that galinda and elphaba holds! BTW delta did sing at the AFL grand final! who says that she was away? she wasnt...
these auditions would be treated privately, seeing as it this is already a massive hit in the US...they (as in the producer/s) dont want this to flop in Australia...and it wont only if they have the best!
SO STOP ARGUING! its not worth it... why cant you guys just accept that who ever gets the roles they will be the best who auditioned!
WICKED WILL GO OFF! i know it.... everyone here in wollongong, are massive fans of it! DONT RUIN IT!.....let it be!
i know this is completely off topic to Wicked... but i heard a little rumour that David Campbell has been cast as Link in the Oz production of Hairspray? does anyone believe this? personally, i dont think David Campbell has enough sex appeal to pull off Link... especially after seeing him dance! bless him for tryin tho :)
yeah maybe delta wasnt here... but seriously have guys even thought of what is best for the show? the producers will only get the best, although delta is one of one of the pride of our nation, i still dont think she has a strong enough voice to hold notes in such songs as "defying gravity" and "no good deed"....
i was discussing WICKED and how it might be coming Australia with my friends... and we all agreed that there is one female artist who is well known around the world who would be good for the job as elphaba or galinda... and that is TINA ARENA! she has an amaizing voice, high range and im sure she can act! i know its really mean of me to say such things about delta and lisa, but seriously...wicked is my favourite musical and if it get messed around its not worth it!
wicked is amazing, if it just gets trampled on, maybe its best for it to stay in the US...as much as i would love to see it again... it wouldnt be worth seeing if the acting, dancing and singing are crap!
No one knows. This entire thread has been lots of bull about people pretending to be in the know and then other people scorning them for pretending. Speculating about the cast is all we've gotten up to.
I have been reading this for awhile and it is quite funny everyone has been so worried about what cast there is, but at this point in time Wicked cant come to Australia as there is not a theatre big enough to have the dragon clock at the front of the stage as it is should be. Can anyone think of a theatre that is big enough for it as I have had countless number of talks with friends to see which one would fit it but so far we cant find one.
maybe we could use stadiums rather than theatres... lol..hmmm well theres theatre royal sydney...thats an alright theatre...
theres always the opera house too:D
sorry about everything i said in the past mesages.. its jus that its sooo frustrating to see people judge the show...when we actually dont know wen and if its coming to australia!

* * *
There hasn't really been a theatre large enough for any show that has transferred from Broadway. Nearly every show that has been brought over here has been parred down and modified (or in some cases completely redesigned).
Hmm, what would people think of Chloe Dallimore as Glinda? Random idea I had. And perhaps Dennis Olsen as the Wizard or Amanda Muggleton as Madame Morrible?
Link, Corney Collins, Edna Turnblad... These are all characters from the musical Hairspray.
I did hear a rumour originally that either Wicked or Hairspray was coming to the Eastern States. It looks as though Hair spray got the spot...
Oh no... not Bert Newton.
Sarah R
I have also been following the conversation above, with some interest I might add :)
CaseyCO6 I like your idea of Amanda Muggleton as Mme Morrible but I don't like Chloe Dallimore as G(a)linda I don't believe she has the voice.
Cheers
It used to happen. We had several major tours start here and pare down for interstate venues. The management seems to have lost it's nerve. Since the seventies and eighties.
What about David Campbell as FIYERO I saw him in Urinetown and he was awesome :D
Just a thought :)
BTW Lisa McCune was in it also and I still don't belive she would make a good G(a)linda :(
Defy Gravity - It's Fun :)
Delta can't pull off Glinda anyways...she can't sing opera, plain and simple. I can't see them putting a 'popstar' in Wicked - it just doesn't make sense. they should leave it to the actual musical theatre performers.
If her age wouldn't be a problem, Marina Prior would be good as Galinda...
And I wish Idina Menzel would come to Australia to be Elphaba, because she IS the green girl...
Amusing again Mrs Sondheim
Delta bwhahahah
Still if Wicked did happen it wouldn't surprise me if we get a bunch of 'celebrities' from various semi related areas...
It could be like.... 'a musical with the stars'
Hey all.
Wicked ISN'T coming to Australia. A friend of mine that works in the Profssional theatre industry has checked out these stories and has told me that Wicked will not be coming to Australia for a few years due to money and production team issues and demands made by the USA production team & producers....sorry to be the bringer of bad news. Keep dancing through life (had to say it), NASTYBOI (",)
I dont know if its true Wicked wont be coming here, and I dont really have anything much to add but if anyone knows Christy (I am so bad, I cant remember her last name) who was in Grease - The Arena Spectacular (as chorus) and just did a run as girl 1 on Pacific Sun Cruise Ship...she is phenomenal and I have heard her sing Popular and it is on par, if not better, then original Kristin Chenoweth! A big call I know, but the resemblance is uncanny...if anyone knows her, make sure she auditions!
