I'm currently doing a full time certicifate in musical theatre at Stage Door School of Performing Arts in Subiaco, Perth.
The Director/manager, worked at WAAPA for 10 years.
It's a fantastic place if you want to get the best training in perth. Our musical director teacher Simon Holt, teaches at WAAPA as well.

I think that's all there is in the way of degree courses in Oz
VCA (University of Melbourne) has a one year foundation course in music theatre
NIDA (University of NSW) has a one year part time music theatre course called Singer Dancer Actor
If you are more of a dancer Brent Street does a performing arts certificate (one year) their graduates tend to do quite well in the industry and brent street hold auditions in Perth (bonus!).
www.brentstreet.com.au
ACTT
Also have a one year course focussing on the acting side of mus theatre
www.actt.edu.au
There is also La Salle college of the arts in Singapore which does a degree course in music theatre. That one is quite new.
All these courses are quite exe though!
I would be wary of Stage Door.
Hope that helps chook!
Good Luck

There are more degree courses - in Melbourne, there's Swinburne, NMIT, RMIT, Deakin, Monash, and I'm sure a couple of others. Drama Victoria (http://www.dramavictoria.vic.edu.au/working_in_drama_and_theatre/courses.htm) has a good list of all the Vic courses, and if you go to Drama Australia (http://www.dramaaustralia.org.au/links.html) there are links to other courses.

Thanks for all that guys
I'm actually enquiring for my daughter
Either way... we're in SA and looks like she'll be going interstate
and looks like no support from the government
I'm a teacher... wy wife is a contract teacher... but we earn too much for her to receive support
Ignoring the HECS fees if she needs to go interstate looks like about 12 grand a year
Na I couldn't get those links to work... can you try them again?

Re: Perorming arts courses can you add any
Im currently studying an excellent Performing Arts course a Cerificate IV Music Theatre, at the Contemporary Music Centre part of the TAFE college at Nirimba (Western Sydney) it is a 1 year course and teh fees are less than $800. It combines Singing Dance and Acting aswell as audition skills, and industry studies of Music Theatre. The teachers are excellent and the course is really challenging. There is On Campus share accomodation starting from about $90 a week i think. It is a course that is entry by audition, (its nothing to be scared of as much as a day of fun) but if you are unsuccessful in your Audition, there is also a 1 year certificate 3 in Theatre performance, wich also covers Acting for film. This course is an open applicaton course. both of which are a lot of fun and hugely cheaper option to some of the private courses.
more info on these courses are at www.cmc.edu.au and its under the performing Arts link. if you want to know more im happy to tell you. my email is katie@sister2sister.com.au

Just following up on the LASALLE-SIA Musical Theatre course...
I'm currently studying there doing the B.A of Acting course which runs alongside the Musical Theatre students...
If you're something thats a bit different from WAAPA/NIDA/VCA, this course is worth checking out. Not only do we learn western styles and techniques but we also have opportunities to do asian theatre.
You can check out the course details at http://www.lasallesia.edu.sg/ - the Musical Theatre course here is the first of it's kind in South-East Asia i believe, and the programme leader of this course is Denis Folington who actually was one of the architects of WAAPA's musical theatre course.
The musical theatre students here are currently being taught singing by Amanda Colliver who was voice coach for Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge and was Hugh Jackman's in Beauty and The Beast and Sunset Boulevard.
It's an exciting time here at LASALLE-SIA and we can't wait to see the course numbers grow. If you want some more info on life here in Singapore, email me at 7908@lasallesia.edu.sg or contact Maureen Varis at LASALLE-SIA for more info on the course. You can find her contact details at http://www.lasallesia.edu.sg/
Cheers!
Crispian.
P.S Hi to all the theatre crew BTW!!!!! I'm trying to write an email but theres so much to tell so i will contact you soon!!!
