Gilbert and Sullivan's Patience the musical at the Playhouse Theatre April 6-9th
Sat, 2 Apr 2005, 06:50 pmThe Gilbert and Sullivan Society of WA (Inc) present:
"Patience" - the musical (also known as Bunthorne's Bride)
at the Playhouse Theatre, 3 Pier Street, Perth - 8pm Shows & 2pm Sat matinee show
Dates: Wednesday 6th April to Saturday 9th of April 2005
(5 performances only!)
Director: Ted Bull
Musical Direction: Simon Lawford
ABOUT PATIENCE:
"Patience" was originally set in the time of the likes of Oscar Wilde and his contemporaries. Those who languished long and lovingly over what was beautiful and full of meaning...
However..... due to the artistic merit of Ted Bull, this production has been set in the 1930's, a time when matinee idols ruled and young gals oohed and aahed over the latest Movie Star - and the stars of the silver screen primped and paraded their wares as though they were at one with the Gods!
The storyline centers around an aesthetic poet, Reginald Bunthorne (played by Alan Needham) who in his desperation to find true love, whilst being idolized by '20 love sick maidens', attempts to win the affections of a simple minded village 'cleaning girl' - Patience (played by Alexandra Bak)
While Bunthorne pursues Patience, the 20 lovesick maidens pursue him and a army of local Dragoon Soldiers pursue them...
Bunthorne's World is turned upside down when one Archibald Grosvenor (played by Courtney Greig) who is in the same line of poetic business and is even more aesthetic enters the village leaving Bunthorne forever "crushed again"!
Come and see this fabulously funny show with a wonderful cast at the Playhouse next week!
