What passing-bells for these who die as cattle? - Wilfred Owen

More than the photographs or the eyewitnesses reports, it is the poetry of the First World War that has embedded the horror of that time in our consciousness, producing some of the most outstanding and poignant poems of this century. ANTHEMS FOR DOOMED YOUTH is a new musical work by Perth composer Simon R. Holt and consists of musical settings of some of the most prolific and significant poetry of World War I. Represented are the works of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon but also included are the less familiar war poets such as Benjamin Perét and Alfred Lichtenstein as well as translations of verse from Germany and France. The shattering, ironic realism, tenderness and regret reflected in these poems is also mirrored in HoltÂ’s musical style that ranges from classical to musical theatre. Together they encompass the waste and violence of war.

yellow glass theatre inc (the company that brought you LAST DAYS OF WEIMAR) proudly presents this WORLD PREMIERE workshop production performed by an all-male cast and accompanied by the composer.
