Hi Everyone. The theatre company I am involved with is planning to do a 24 hour show in a few weeks time. The concept being that anyone who wants to be involved, either on stage or backstage, turns up at the theatre on the Friday night where the rules etc are explained and then the title of the full length musical that we will be perforning the following night to a paying audience is announced...that gives us 24 hours to audition, rehearse, do sets, costumes, lighting, sound, learn the songs, rehearse the orchestra, do the program....everything in the space of a day.....wer'e doing it as a fundraiser! there must be easier ways of raising money than this but it will be fun! I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: 24 hour show

Is this Northern Light ( Adlelaide)

I just read about this and it's sounds like fun

Maybe Rod will pick 'Starlight Express' :-)

If it is Northern Light

congrats on all your recent awards

Re: 24 hour show

Hi Brooke and Clint. Clint you are right it is Northern Light. Ther3e has been a fair amount of speculation amongst the membership as to what the show will be, anything from Grease to Oklahoma and everything in between. The person organising the event is one of my closest friends and she is remaining very tight-lipped about the whole thing!----not that I want her to tell me as that wrecks the whole point of the exercise! I'm doing the sets for it so it will be a very hectic 24 hours for me and indeed all of us! If you want to be involved either backstage or onstage, turn up at the Shedley Theatre in Elizabeth (Adelaide SA) at 7pm on Fri Feb 4th (Gold coin entry...it a fundraiser after all!) at 8pm on Fri night the show will be announced by Rod Lewis and at 8pm on Sat the 5th the curtain goes up! Tickets are $12 if you book before the title of the show is announced and $16 after it's been announced. From having spoken to Ceri, who's organising it, I think the crew are in the theatre throughout the night, starting at midnight or so, and the cast come in at 8am Sat morning to start rehearsals.....it will be a panic as you can imagine, but will be a test of our ingenuity! Thankyou for your kind comments on our recieving those awards. We have had a very successfull year, but gee it was a lot of hard work..as I'm sure you know!

Re: 24 hour show

My daughter and I are rehearsing Jekyll and Hyde with the Hills at the moment
and she's in rehearsal for a TV show so as she's also doing year 12 I think it might be a big ask

Sounds like a great idea

Good luck

Re: 24 hour show

I'm looking forward to seeing Jekyll and Hyde. Sue Pole is a good friend of mine and I know Mark Oates and probably quite a few other people in it too!
Break a leg!

Re: 24 hour show

Yeah Sue's cool and I've worked with her before
Mark's got a great voice
What's especially pleasing is I get to be rich (General Lord Glossop) but my daughter is horribly poor.... street urchin

I do get murdered though which evens it up a bit :-)

Re: 24 hour show

Well, just to let you know, the 24 hour show went on last night and went really well.....really well for a show that nobody even knew the title of the day before! At 8pm on Friday a local critic announced that the theatre company had 24 hours to cast, rehease, design sets, get costumes, do props, choreograph and rehearse the orchestra for a production of South Pacific! And blow me down if it didnt go off really well! We had a capacity crowd there who enjoyed the evening and the performasnce went off without too many hitches...a bit of hilarious ad-libbing when the strap on Nellie Forbush's nightdress broke, and when the odd line was forgotten, not to mention where the plug for the radio shack headphone reciever got shoved when it wouldnt go into the radio properly! Many people, including the critic said that it was a better show than many openeing night performances he's seen by various companies over the years who have been rehearsing for 3 months! All in all a lot of work done in 24 hours, but it goes to show how much can be achieved in such a short time!

Re: 24 hour show

Well done

We really wanted to come but Danni's doing year 12 an it seemed like a tiring thing to do... there were a few qweary souls at J and H rehearsals the day after

I won a bet with Danni... we both had five guesses as to what the show would be and I got it

Maybe all musicals should be done this way... saves all that nasty rehearsal stuff

Re: 24 hour show

We were all saying the same thing...why do we rehearse for months when you can throw it together in one day! Mind you the stress level is exacerbated by having such a short time to do it in. Can't wait to see J and h, I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Re: 24 hour show

Well, let's not forget the really important people who do these shows, like THE ORCHESTRA!
The worst thing about the Hills is that we don't get to see ANYTHING at all, at least at the Shedley we can either see the front of the stage, or the wings...
Paul (saxes/clarinet/drums/etc)

Re: 24 hour show

You're right Paul. So often members of the orchestra wonder what on earth the audience are laughing at or reacting to. It must be hard for you guys to know what's going on at all....you don't even have the lyrics printed in your scores ! I did notice, I think it was during Copacabana at the Shedley last October, that I saw a few stray orchestral heads popping up out of the pit to try and get a bit of a view of the action when they were'nt playing! As for the Hills there isn't a lot of room there at all!
