Can anyone reccomend a good song for my WAAPA Audition? Looking for a female (pref. young) character. Number needs to be up tempo, looking for something a bit gutsy and different. I am a mezzo-soprano and would prefer to belt for this one. My other number is I'll forget you from The Scarlet Pimpernal.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am reaching the end of my tether! :)

Thanks!

What ever you choose, live the song & be natural.
Unlike what you see on the Flicks or the box!

Re: Can anyone reccomend a good song?

As your first choice is a contemporary musical you should try and choose an up tempo from a more traditional older show eg Rogers & H, Irving Berlin, Gershwin etc.

I know that David King likes you to do something Old, something new. There are some great old character songs in that era that are a lot of fun.

Hope that helps. Hard for me to pick specific songs without hearing your voice but if you need suggestions let me know

Have you thought about anything from one of the well known Musicals??

Honeybun -- South Pacific

I have confidence -- Sound of Music

Just you wait -- My Fair Lady/Pygmalion

Cabaret -- Cabaret

Diamonds are a girls best friend -- Chicago

And that's just of the top of my head.

Re: Can anyone reccomend a good song?

i would have to disagree with the choice of your songs.

i myself am auditiong for the waapa course, and i have chosen songs that arent well known. this is what a singer told me to do.

honeybun, cabaret, confidence and diamonds are all standard eisteddofd songs...stay far away from them all!

do a song thats from a musical that may not have been a great sucess but had a good song!
do something that will make them think that you put alot of thought into your audition process!

Re: Can anyone reccomend a good song?

Don't do ANYTHING that everyone knows. Do something uncommon, different...

If you go into an audition singing something they've heard a BILLION times, they won't be overly interested in hearing it again unless its BRILLIANT.... Which is a hard set of shoes to fill.

And where on earth does:
"Diamonds are a girls best friend" - come into CHICAGO???

Re: Can anyone reccomend a good song?

yeah...i wouldnt do that song either...

if it caught you, then it caught hepas of other people. i know quite a few people who are considering that song.

as i said before, so a song from a musical that may have flopped but had a great song! or a song from a musical that not many people have seen

you want the people who are watching you to remember you for a song that stood out, and one that wasnt repeated all day long!
