Thu, 26 Aug 2004, 10:41 pmHi -
I'm after some suggestions of good female audition songs - preferably upbeat numbers.

Re: Audition songs
only ones i can think of are,
tits and arse, (or dance ten looks three...) - chorus line
not for the life of me - thoroughly modern millie
not a day goes by - merrily we roll along (sooooo beautiful!)

caint say no - oklahoma
well i mean these are just songs that i think are good and personally like! i guess it kinda depends on your range and what your comfortable with... id love to see someone audition with the trolley song myself!!! just for a laugh...!
*hums to self* da da da dada dada ring ring ring went the bell, sing sing sing went my heart strings......

Re: Audition songs
hmmmmmmmm
tits and ass??? i dunno if you're daring enough go for it!!
in an audition masterclass we told to AVOID A CHORUS LINE!!! and NO all that jazz .
think of songs that dont rely heavily on a strong chorus ie all that jazz. its very hard to pull it off all by yourself in a little room in you plain dance clothes!!
also it depends on your age....
everything's comming up roses - gypsy (my personal fav!)
Spanish Rose - bye bye birdie
adelaides lament - guys and dolls
try this site www.musicalheaven.com its has HEAPS of synopsis' and lyrics and list of song form 100's of shows
goodluck

Re: Audition songs
by the way dont listen to the first reply you got, obviously that person is inexpierianced seeing as she doesnt even know the correct lyrics to the trolly song, look into some of the newer musicals, though I dont like the show, some of the songs from Aida are upbeat and fun, and are at least from the same era as opposed to outdated classics. someone else's story from chess is good though not upbeat, but for future referance check it out :)... Make sure that if you choose a character song such as Adaleides Lamet or Cant Say No that it is in tune with the character your auditioning for, otherwise it may be hard for a director to see you in other parts or know if you are versitile. Classics are good to but really, its best to suit the peice to the roll your auditioning for so that the director can invision you in the desired roll, it should of coarse also fit your voice. Also, character rolls are alright as long as youve got the credentials to prove versitility. If not then stick to music of the same style genre, era and character "type". Look into once Upon a Matress maybe? dont know much about it but heard its good and a fun show.
