Help needed in U.K

Hi,
I am 18 and from the UK. I am wanting to move to OZ, I am a semi- professional dancer and want to move one step further, what is the best thing for me to do????

I would suggest you contact the Victorian College of Arts & Western Australian Performing Arts (both should be locateable on the net) if you are wishing to complete your studies over here. You haven't chosen a very easy field to get into. Good luck.

Thanks for the info I recieved, It seems that those colleges, Victorian College of Arts and Western Australian Performing Arts, concentrate on Ballet and Contemporary, I am more interested in Tap and Jazz. Is there any colleges that interpret these areas of dance? I am also interested in singing and acting, I have only been studying thses feilds for a year as I am in college and will be for another year, when I leave I will ghave a HND (Higher National Diploma) in Music Theatre. If anybody has any info on colleges that deffinately interpret Tap and Jazz at a high level please let me know or if there is an agency that will push me in the right direction or help find me something other than college or University don't hesitate to get in contact.

There are no BA courses just for theatrical or commercial dance that I am aware of. However there are several places in Australia that offer 1 and 2 years courses (certificate/diploma). Eg. Brent Street, DanceWorld301.

Just curious as to why you want to move to Australia to become a professional dancer/performer? I'm sure that you are aware that there are so many more opportunities for you in the UK. There may be alot less of us to compete against in Oz but there is also alot less work. In London you may have 15 musicals running at once, in Sydney you'd be lucky if two are on the go. Australia is absolutely fantastic though (I am a little biased being an Aussie living in London) so I wish you well.

PS: The Musical Theatre course at WAAPA teaches ballet, jazz and tap but probably not to the level you are looking for. You would probably have to take external classes as well.

I have just been looking at the Sydney Dance Company web site and it looks really good, does any body know exactly what kind of productions they do, has anybody seen them?
Is it just dance classes they do or are they like a casting agency or something.
