I have recently returned from New York, where i was working as director on the development of a new musical. the process involved numerous workshops and readings, trying to gain producers' interest and money for further development, hopefully leading to a Broadway or at least regional run.

How are new musicals developed here in Australia? How does a director become involved?

I enjoyed this work emmensely and would like to continue it here

Re: development of new musicals

i'm not sure on this process either, we have 3 brand new Australian Musicals sitting and waiting for a Producer to come and pick them up!
where in Australia are you? we could always use a director when we get up and running?

Re: development of new musicals

I too have an original musical I have been trying for some time to get off the ground. I am seriously considering producing it myself as I cannot get any serious interest in the show, despite very positive reactions.

It seens there is a serious lack of entrepenuers in this country - and those there are play it safe (though it's never a safe business) with revivals and overseas hits.
