AUDITIONS IN BRISBANE

Auditions for a youth production of Jonathon Larson’s RENT the Musical MESH Productions is a new youth theatre company. We are aiming to produce top-quality youth productions, showcasing the awesome talent of Brisbane!! We are currently holding auditions for our production of Jonathon Larson’s RENT the Musical, which we will be performing at the Brisbane Arts Theatre on July 25th and 26th of this year. Because this is a youth production, we want a cast that ages anywhere between 12-25 involved with our company. Please be aware that if you are over the age of 18, you will need to hold a valid Blue Card in order to be part of the show. We need actors who can sing, singers who can act and a handful of dancers on the side! The roles in RENT are: Roger Davis, a struggling musician who's HIV+. Roger hopes to write one last meaningful song before he dies. Tenor range up to an A. Mark Cohen, a filmmaker and video artist, and Roger's roommate. Tenor range up to an E. Tom Collins, an HIV+ computer genius who's back in New York after being away. Bass to tenor range. Benjamin Coffin III, landlord of Mark and Roger's building. Benny wants to start a multi- media studio. Tenor. Joanne Jefferson, a public interest lawyer, and Maureen's lover. Soprano with high belt up to G. Angel Shunard, a transvestite street drummer also infected with HIV. Can be played by a female or a male. Alto/Tenor range. Mimi Marquez, a dancer with AIDS and a drug problem. Mezzo-soprano up to an E. Maureen Johnson, a performance artist and Mark's ex-girlfriend. Mezzo-soprano with high belt up to a D. Mark's mom, Roger's mom, Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson, Mr. Grey, Alexi Darling, Steve, Paul, a Christmas caroler, a woman with bags, a pastor, man with squeegee, a cop, a waiter, and others. The Ensemble will be made up of about six or seven singers, both male and female. We also want at least three dancers, preferably who can sing. The Auditions will be held at the Visible Ink rehearsal space from 9am-5pm on Sunday the 30th of March. The space is at 54 Berwick Street, Fortitude Valley. Please prepare a song FROM MUSICAL THEATRE ONLY that shows off your vocal range and acting ability. A’cappella or preferably with backing tape, no sight-reading at the audition.
